Past
The light wasn't bright enough to hurt Cora's eyes, but it still wouldn't let her see anything. She felt an odd sensation inside of her… almost like the energy she'd absorbed had become a part of her… and had given her all new powers. She felt herself growing, her tail becoming longer and thinner, and the trees around her seemed to form a link to her… as if the vegetation and Cora had become one. The light receded.
"Cora!" Amber exclaimed. "You're a Leafeon!"
"What!" Cora looked at her new body. Her tail was now a long, bluish-green leaf with a light green tip. Her paws were dirt-brown and grass was sprouting from her body. Cora's fur was now shorter, and also a light shade of tan.
Cora had never put much thought into evolution, and wasn't sure if she wanted to be a Leafeon or not. Still, if she was going to be like this, she might as well try to enjoy it…
"Oh Arceaus, I'm so sorry I made you evolve. I didn't think that would happen… Oh, man I wasn't thinking at all! "Amber looked distressed. "Did you want to evolve into a Leafeon?" She asked. Cora looked into the Eevee's eyes and could tell that Amber really didn't want to do her any harm, and that it would break her heart if she said she didn't like Leafeon.
"Don't worry, Amber, I love it." She said
"Really?"
"Well, to be honest, I never gave much thought into evolution, but now that I'm a Leafeon, I realized that I've always wanted to be one" It was a stretch, what Cora said, but seeing the relief and joy on her best friend's face made the lie worth doing.
"Oh, that's great! I'm so glad you're not angry at me or anything! So… how about we test your new evolution out?"
"Good idea, so… let's try Razor Leaf!" Cora felt many sharp leaves grow from the large blade of grass on her forehead. Targeting a nearby tree, she swung her head and sent the dagger-shaped leaves towards it. Most of them missed their mark, but one managed to hit right smack in the middle of Cora's target.
"That was amazing! For a first try, I mean. For now, try to keep your aim straight. Even though you are swinging you head, you should be able to release the leaves at will, right? So, just learn when to shoot and you'll be able to send all of them at the same spot! Let's try that, Cora!"
Cora wasn't so sure it would be that easy. Growing the leaves themselves had taken up a lot of energy. Amber saw the look on her face.
"I know your tired, but the more you practice the move, the easier doing it will be. And if anyone can do it, you can, Cora!"
"You know, why is it that I'm the only one who is practicing out here?" Cora protested.
"Because, you're the one who is a Leafeon, you're the one who has a new move to learn, and you're the one who woke me up too early, so do it, Leafy.
"Alright, fine."
Cora practiced her move more and more until the sun was just about to rise. She was now able to have the majority of her leaves hit her target. The two were about to leave, but then realized that they would have to find a way to explain that Cora had evolved, and stayed a bit longer to devise a plan.
"Ok" Amber said "So we won't be able to sneak in without them questioning why you're a Leafeon, and we can't get in trouble or they'll make sure we don't leave camp for an extra month!"
"Hmmm… maybe you could pretend to be attacked by a Pokémon, and when everyone comes I could surround myself with Secret Power to make it look like we fought it off and that I started evolving!"
"Normally I'd tail-slap you for a plan as crummy as that, but we don't have much time and that's the best you've come up with so far. I'm just a little worried about you looking like your evolving using Secret Power; you'll need to practice at least a little bit if we even want a chance at passing you off as if you evolved."
"Ok, I hope I can do this…" Cora once again focused on her surroundings and formed a small glowing sphere in front of her. Odd, the sphere was green even before she absorbed the energy around her… Cora made it grow to about her size, and then she stepped inside it. The light surrounding her seemed to be growing a deeper and deeper shade of green. Suddenly, Cora felt herself shrink, her fur grow. Her connection with the forest dwindled. After Cora managed to have the energy fade, she opened her eyes to see Amber gawping at her.
"Cora…" Amber seemed lost for words. "Look at yourself"
Cora didn't know what she was talking about, until she looked at her own fur. Silver. Not short and tan anymore, but long and silver. Somehow, Cora had managed to drain all her power into that one attack and had become an Eevee again.
