Description
PastWhat was taking place was far, far worse than a forest fire. Eevees and their evolutions were running wild as their home was burnt, then flooded, then electrified over and over again. Surrounding the clearing were people dressed in black uniforms and their Pokémon. They were trying to get the wild Pokémon in sacks and cages… and were succeeding. Ethan and Sparky stood there; frozen in shock, not knowing what to do, or, for that matter, what they could do, for the Pokémon surrounding the clearing could easily kill him and Sparky.
The grunt seemed to come out of nowhere.
"You there, child" He said. "We can't have you running off and reporting this, now can we? So we could do this the easy way, or the hard way; the easy way being that you come with me good and quietly so we can take a nice trip to HQ, the hard way" He held up a Poke ball "Being that I'll have to drag your unconscious bodies there!"
Both options seemed pretty bad, but they wouldn't go down without a fight. Ethan swallowed his fear. "Sparky, you ready?"
Sparky had a better idea. Quickly, before the grunt could send out his Pokémon, he gathered the electricity in his pouches and discharged it at the man in front of him. He let out a yell that was drowned out by the battle, and fell down, temporarily paralyzed.
"…that works too." Ethan stole the man's hat and coat and put it on, trying to portray himself as one of the members. The two were just about to go to where the battle was and try to intervene when they realized something ominous; the shrieking had stopped. Ethan and Sparky turned to see the last sleeping Eevee being loaded into a large truck, followed closely by a Hypno as the doors closed. Ethan walked up to the lone grunt left there. He looked at Ethan as if it were normal for 16 year old teenagers to be working here.
"You're here to help clean up the mess right?" The grunt asked. Ethan quickly nodded his head.
"Good, we need this clearing to look just like how it was earlier, don't want anyone getting suspicious."
Ethan looked a little upset "You expect me to clean all this up by myself?"
"Listen kid, Team Rocket needs me to go help "train" the Pokémon we just captured. Don't expect me to stay here and pick up the trash."
"But of course" Ethan said "Oh, and hey, could you just help me out with one quick thing? It doesn't involve cleaning anything."
"It better be quick"
"Don't worry. Sparky, would you do the honors?"
"What- AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!"
The man was writhing in pain and shock by Sparky's thunderwave attack.
Ethan pinned the grunt against the tree "Now, who is Team Rocket?"
The grunt stared at him, not knowing what to say.
"Answer me!" Sparky growled at the grunt from behind Ethan, his cheeks sparking with electricity just begging to be discharged.
"W-we're an organization…"
"You think I don't know that! What are your goals?! Who do you work for?! What do you mean by 'train'?!"
"Well… you see… our goal is- WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?!"
Ethan turned around to see what was happening, and was punished with a slug to the back of his head from the grunt he was pinning.
"Weezing, use smokescreen!" The whole clearing was suddenly covered in a thick, black smoke. Ethan and Sparky were left coughing and gasping for air as the grunt and his Pokémon managed to get away.
It was awhile until the smoke finally lifted, and the two were left completely alone. The grunt had even managed to rip Ethan's uniform off, and it was getting cold.
"This just isn't my day" The trainer sighed.
But Sparky was preoccupied with something. The scent of Eevees was fading, but there was still something lingering… Sparky put his nose to the floor and tried to distinguish the scents. There was definitely still a Pokémon around, not too far from the clearing. Without warning, the Pikachu bolted to where the smell was coming from, leaving Ethan to try and catch up.
"Sparky! Where are you going!?" Ethan had lost his only Pokémon in the dense undergrowth. Some trainer he was… he slowed down and started walking in the direction his Pikachu had gone. Then Ethan realized something, a few meters away the floor was giving off a faint glow… could it be?!
"The trail!"
____
The scent was getting stronger and stronger. Soon Sparky would find the Pokémon and he'd be able to see what happened…
He didn't even realize he was about to crash into the Pokémon he was looking for.
"Whoa"! Sparky was pushed a bit back be the collision, but it looked like that Pokémon got the worst of it.
"Oh my gosh, are you okay?" Sparky asked "I'm really sorry for bumping into you but- wait a minute you're a shiny Eevee!" The Pikachu had heard rumors of shiny Pokémon, but he never thought he'd come face to face with one! And it was even an Eevee!
The Eevee looked a little irritated. "Look, I don't have much time right now" She muttered. The little fox sat up and they stood face to face with each other. Her fur was silver and her collar was the color of the moon. Her eyes looked like they were blue.
"Have you seen any other Eevees?" She asked
Sparky's thoughts turned back to the clearing. The shrieks of wounded Pokémon being forced into bags and caged, the last sleeping Eevee being loaded into a truck… "Oh... Arceaus I'm so sorry... I really don't want to scare you-"
"Too late"
"-but a bunch of Eevees and Eevee evolutions were loaded into a truck and driven away earlier"
"WHAT!!! THAT WAS MY CLAN THEY TOOK!!! YOU MEAN YOU JUST WATCHED AS MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY WERE TAKEN AWAY BY EVIL POKEMON TRAINERS AND DIDN'T DO A THING!!! HOW COULD YOU!!"
Ouch, that hurt. "First of all; you need to calm down, Second of all; I did try to do something: my friend and I have been chasing after those guys when we discovered they stole Pokémon, and wanted to bring them to justice. Third of all; not all Pokémon trainers are evil. There are some really good trainers out there!"
" In case you haven't noticed, a band of trainers is getting away with my clan right now! We need to after them!"
Sparky was getting fed up with this Eevee insulting his friends "Those guys are not trainers, they're thieves! And can't you see that we won't be able to catch up with them on foot?" He wished he hadn't said that. The color left on the poor fox's face disappeared and she froze in grief.
"You-you mean my family is... gone?" She finally asked. "No! My familys gone! I'll never see them again!" She started sobbing "No! No no no no no! Please help me!" Tears were rolling down her eyes and she was sobbing uncontrollably. To lose everything you loved at this age… no, it just wasn't right. He had to comfort her somehow…
"No, don't worry, uh, there is no need to cry because... um I'll-"
" There you are, Sparky!" Sparky turned to see Ethan emerge from the bushes. "Where have you- oh sweet Arceaus a shiny Eevee!"
Eevee looked horrified. "Please, Sparky" She whimpered. "Don't let him catch me; I need to find my clan." She shut her eyes and didn't move. The poor thing had already given up.
"Sparky, use thundershock!" Ethan's voice was filled with so much hope, so much determination to catch a shiny Pokémon; it broke Sparky's heart to disobey.
"Sparky?" He asked. The Pikachu grimly shook his head.
"I'm sorry, Ethan, but I can't. This Eevee wants to stay wild so she can find her family and save them from Team Rocket. She also has a pretty low opinion when it comes to trainers."
Ethan looked confused "What? Are you hurt? You look fine... oh, that Eevee doesn't want to be captured, does it?"
Sparky nodded "I'm sorry, but right now we need to report to the police if we want a chance at catching them"
The trainer nodded "Don't worry, I won't force her to come along. But right now we need to hurry and report to Officer Jenny if we still want to stand a chance at catching Team Rocket!"
"I already said- oh never mind. Later Eevee"
"Wait! You're leaving already?"
He was little surprised that the Eevee suddenly wanted them to stay "Yeah, unless you don't want us catching those thieves"
She shuffled her feet a little "W-well, you see, I want to go with you guys, not as a captured Pokémon!" She added quickly "But as... allies. Just so I can get my clan back"
Ethan seemed to understand most of what she was saying "Wait, I thought you didn't want to join... or, is it that you just want to accompany us?" She nodded vigorously "Yeah, I'll let you come, I mean, it is your family they took. But you should probably ride on my shoulder, or else trainers might realize you're not my Pokémon and try to catch you"
The Eevee stared at him in disbelief. She thought he was going to try to catch her… Sparky couldn't allow that. The fox was about to run, but he had caught her eye. They stared at each other, communicating through pure eye contact.
'Well, what are you going to do?'
'I can't trust him, he's evil!'
'Do you trust me?'
'I guess... but-'
'If you trusted me, you would do it'
'But-'
'I promise to protect you if anything happens'
'...well...'
'Please?'
She held his gaze for a few more moments, and jumped up on the Ethan's shoulder.
