I love CG almost as much but, I don't think the knightmares fit in with the story in the anime...

Tablet for a rough sketch, then created outline with pen tool. So its both
Its actually a spin off, from the kind of famous death note OST picture, so the poses weren't a big deal

Pen tool is quite easy when you know how to do everything:
For example holding Alt to remove the preset curve that will be coming at the next anchor point, holdin Ctrl to move anchor points etcetera.
I found everything out on my own, so I don't know where to find good tuts..
I always try to learn Trial and Error style, things simply works best through experience for me
