Description A comic strip commission I did for Rated-R-PonyStar

They wrote the script for the comic and then I drew it.

I was excited about this one cause it’s a Death Note reference and uh... I’m a pretty big fan of Death Note

If you’re interested in commissioning me, you can look at my front page or my Commission journal- www.deviantart.com/shinysmearg…

As a fan of all generations of MLP (and a particular fan of Minty), and a general anime fan, I enjoyed this comic (nothing against classic Dash; I just enjoy crossovers in general). This one also works on a deeper level because of the connections:
Venus Terzo played Rainbow Dash in G3/3.5 and Wedy in Death Note (anime, not live-action remake)
Tabitha St. Germain played Minty in G3/3.5 and Naomi Misora in Death Note

Huh. I didn’t know that. Interesting ^^

Either:

A: The Death Note works across the multiverse.

B: Dash would ceased to exist since that's her past self.

You're "a pretty big fan of Death Note" and you didn't bother to mention in the description that this isn't how the eponymous item actually works?

Tagging Rated-R-PonyStar because the comic itself was entirely on him, and to be fair these sorts of gags have a pretty long history regardless (See: the first Terminator and a throwaway line about how the eponymous robot was killing his way down the phone book because of course there'd be several people named Sarah Conner in a major city)

I mean... I didn’t think it was that big of a deal? The comic is meant to be a joke and I think the general idea of it is still there.

Yeah, I'm fine with people doing stupid things, but I prefer it when they know and admit that it's stupid.

That would be a great business practice for me. Telling my client that their idea is stupid.

A fair point. The fact that both of you independently responded that you knew it was wrong but did it anyway amuses me nonetheless.

It also amuses me that you’re making a big deal over it.

HeraldOfOpera In reply to ShinySmeargle [2019-12-28 02:33:00 +0000 UTC]

Well, at least it's amusement all around instead of annoyance. That's really the best reaction either side could have hoped for from the other, not that they're really "sides" as such.

and this is why I hate Anime, folks are too damn high strung and anal about anything. Pro tip no one gives a crap

"No one gives a crap" was already something every actual member of this conversation agreed on, then you showed up to try to stir the pot with exactly that sentiment? I think the only high-strung anal person here is you.

Yes I know that's not how the death note works, you need their face and all, but its just for the sake of the joke.

Yeah, as I said, John Cameron made pretty much the same joke long before Death Note was ever a thing.

The Death Note's One Weakness: People With The Same Names!

Tatsurou-san In reply to 6The6Overlord6 [2019-12-27 06:06:07 +0000 UTC]

Actually, it does have a way of dealing with that.  You need both a name and a face in your mind or it won't work.

What if they're twins with the same names?

Both die... I guess… Anyway, a better question would be: what retarded would give the same name to his twin children?

There wasn't really any surprise. I'm just saying people make stupid and weird decisions. Especially when they're either drunk and/or high.

Then it would be the perception of the writer based on how they visualize the twins differently.

6The6Overlord6 In reply to Tatsurou-san [2019-12-27 06:25:01 +0000 UTC]

Even though they look and possibly sound exactly the same? Wouldn't that just confuse the book so much that it ends up killing the wrong twin?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tatsurou-san In reply to 6The6Overlord6 [2019-12-27 06:36:28 +0000 UTC]

Nope.  The book gets the info from the perception of the one writing.  As long as the one writing knows which one they want dead, the book will get the right one...and if the one writing doesn't know for sure which one they want dead and can distinguish, either the book will do nothing...or kill them both.

6The6Overlord6 In reply to Tatsurou-san [2019-12-27 06:42:07 +0000 UTC]

Ok...well what if the person is using the name of a dead person and the user wrote that name down. Will it still count or is nothing gonna happen?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tatsurou-san In reply to 6The6Overlord6 [2019-12-27 09:06:30 +0000 UTC]

If you write down a pseudonym, nothing happens.  If you write down the wrong name three times, that person becomes immune to the effects of the Death Note (doing so intentionally causes it to backfire somehow, as I recall.
