Description At last!

You've waited forever. You've sweated and toiled. You've investigated to see if I'd died. But here it is...

Requested by ~Katelyn-Banshee , a tutorial! Thank you, Katelyn, for forcing me to not procrastinate any longer than I could have!

Most of it is based on what you think will work for the specific picture, though I do mention that in the tutorial : P

Is a brush or pen better do the outlining?

shiroandfubuki In reply to Phantomfan1001 [2011-03-21 23:20:10 +0000 UTC]

For this style, definitely the pen tool. Using a brush gives you too much difference in line width (tablet) or makes your lines too squiggly (mouse) unless you're an expert beyond anything available to mortal ken.

...Wow, haven't gotten a comment on this thing in forever X,D

GAAAAH I can't believe I never commented or faved this! *FACEPALM* I am a horrible person!

Okay, concerning the tutorial... THANK YOU! You FINALLY answered my biggest pen tool question. I had no idea how to just make a line out of the pen tool instead of a shape. Whenever I clicked it, it always filled the color it. And not one pen tool tutorial that I saw answered that. I had to use Adobe Illustrator before to outline my pictures, and it never looked as smooth as I wanted it to because I had to transfer the file. Now I don't have to do that, and my picture will be looking much more realistic!

And on the shading, I always thought you just used the pen tool, but considering I could never USE it, I had no idea how to do it.

Thank you so much for this, Fubuki. This really helps! I'll dedicate a piece to you (ESPECIALLY after that one you did for me a long time ago) as soon as I make a piece that I can dedicate!

You're a great friend.

I'm just happy you're alive o.O

I always seem to reply late to your sometimes-angsty journals, and I feel rather awkward after writing something all deep and meaningful only to discover that everything's fine...

Ah well. You win some, you lose some.

...

Anyway, I'm happy that the line tool stuff helped you! ((I knew there was a reason I put it in there! I knew it!))

Also, concerning the shading, the reason why I use "Make Selection" even after I make the lineart for the shading is because it makes the shading look smoother. If I just use "Fill Selection," the shading looks really blocky.

I'm glad things worked out for you! Now, everybody's all peppy-happy again! *hugs*
