if ur gonna comment here and all ur gonna say is 'oh hes hot' or somethin like that, dont even bother commenting. i say advanced critique encouraged cuz i want real comments, menaing on the drawing, not just the subject. i didnt just draw him cuz hes uber hot or somethin, the picture looked challenging.
oh, and i didnt include the border agin cuz it wouldnt fit in my scanner, lol. that top part u see is part of the burning i did. i might try and scan on the school's scanner cuz its bigger

Wow. The shading is lovely...but, I can't help to squint at the neck area. The moles/freckles there are a bit too bold while the shading along the neck is a little monotone... Try to darken in the more intense shadows. =3 Lovely, though!

i have a suggestion/ critique, your "shading lines" where you went from dark to light, i think are too hard, they make like edges, they should be blurred i think, but i have not seen the photo, so i could not tell you if it is like that in the photo

Alright....I thought I posted this but apparently not!
The texture on the shirt. It's very well done. Only one thing that's making me take a closer look. The hair. There's not a whole lot of detail in it. It's just...black. I suppose you could look at the incredibly detailed shirt and then the hair which has little detail as balance between the two. Or perhaps the picture didn't have a lot of detail, I don't know. All I know is that I get HARASSED all the time when I don't put highlights or even hints of highlights in hair and I wouldn't want you to get the same....(other than this) not that you would because the picture is fabulous. FabUlous. ^^

well, i did put a lot of little hairs everywhere, which is why it took so long, but you're right, there is absolutely no shading in the hair. it was completely and utterly black in the photo, kind of bothered me a bit too, but if i changed it, it would look fake, lol. doesnt work too well for me. thanx for critiquing though i always enjoy a good long crit, teehee

ok first of all. amazing.
i love all your stuff!!!
the sweater/shirt thing, amazing detail, it's PERFECT! His face, though, I'm not sure, I feel kind of out of place saying this becuase who am I to critique your amazing work... but the highlights might be a bit too much.. i mean, his face looks unreal, almost metallic, if you know what I mean. Or really greasy. Or like the shadows might be too dark. I actually have this picture of him saved (I save good photos I find for possible future reference ) and looking at it now, the shading on his face is a lot softer, you made it kind of intense so if you wanted to go that way, you shouldn't have made the highlights so bright. gah i dont know how to say it. >< I don't know, thats just nitpicking though because I can't see anything wrong with this.
Amazing! yay! You're so wonderful!

im sorry for not commenting so much, but its a bit hard to reply to every single comment. i used to reply to every single person, but i wrote a journal a while back explaining i just dont have the time anymore. its unfortunate, but i need to get portfolio work done for college, and although i value and read all of my comments, i just cannot reply to them all. i have almost 2,000 messages i have not had the time to reply to. most of my works get over 100 comments, and replying to every single one is very time consuming. now i only reply to ones that ask questions, or warrant a reply with very long detailed comments. im sorry, i just cant spend all of my time on the computer. thank you though for taking the time to comment here, and im sorry if you still feel you're talking to a wall, theres just not much i can do about that.

hahaha. i was going to post "omgee he's hot" but i'll try the critique thing instead (plus a fav. )
i'd REALLY like to congradulate you on the detail in the fabric without taking away from the focus of his face.
and
i love the imperfections you normally keep -or at least as far as i can tell(ie: moles/freckles? on his neck and the random whisps of hair that are out of place)
only thing that i would love to see improvement of in this portrait is his right eye. if you were to cover his face, except the eye, it almost looks like a dead on point of view, whereas in the real photo his head is tilted back. but..even the eye is wonderful and if you took that advice it might mess up your contrast that works wiht the whole drawing. lol. oh well.
i tried?

Like everyone else that commented, I really like the texture and detail of the sweater, and also his hair. I think that his eyes don't express the angle at which his face is tilted very well. I also like quality of the shading of the teeth, although you seem to have gotten a little lazy with the neck and the nose area. Still, this is a lot better than anything I could have done.

SilverShadeChaos In reply to ??? [2004-12-09 00:39:54 +0000 UTC]
It's hard to compare without the reference, but from just looking at this thing straight on, his nose looks too tilted up in comparison with his eyes and lips, what happened with center of his upper lip? The neck muscles seem a bit over exaggerated. For all I know, these issues are correct, but without seeing what your referencing from, i cant tell if you're copying exactly what you're seeing or not.
Since you copy from pictures rather than from life and you have such a strong sight for replicating details, i doubt much is wrong at all on this.

I'm surprised at you! While being a brilliant drawing, I actually have some critiques...for a change! I think the line of the neck looks a bit odd, not nearly as 'real' as the rest of the drawing. Also, his right eye seems to be quite a bit too small? (I'm not sure, obviously I don't have the original.)
Oh, and I think the jumper is wonderful the hair is also damnably good.

Its a very very captivating image. I love the realisticness you have managed to put into this image. The depth and shading are absolutely fantastic. you haven't only captured excellent texture and excellent shading on this - but you've also managed to capture a bit of his soul, because you have managed to put life into those eyes. Well done!

Damn you. Here I was proud of how I had drawn the same picture, and then you make this. That means it looks awesome, btw. I love all the details you've put into it, like on the sweater, the shine in his eyes and piercing, and making the hair look soft *and* detailed. I can't find anything to critize... It's always possible to get better, but I'm unable to see how right here...

Wow, that does look like it took alot of effort and was complicated. It looks so realistic with most of the shading, although you could have done better on the eyes, perhaps by making them a bit darker. The eyeliner gives the face more shape, in my opinion.

I'm always in awe at how you can do shading like that. And the lips are really well done. I can't draw lips to save my life. And I love the texture on the clothing. How long did that take you to shade in? The detailing is very well done and I like the hair. It looks so natural that it's hard to believe someone drew it. He looks forlorn.
