Description The "Sphinx" PDW is Quicksilver Industries' latest firearm on the market. Using an improved, nifty P90-esque firing mechanism, the "Sphinx" has a 12.5" barrel in less than a 16" weapon. This barrel length combined with the 5.7x28mm round, of which this weapon has 50 in its longitudinal magazine, makes this a perfect, accurate and lethal personal defense weapon.

All controls are on both sides of the weapon, and thanks to the QS patented "SideWinder Mechanism"ยฎ, the magazine can be taken out on both sides as well.
Side rails are on both sides, so when the shooter is right handed, you can easily mount a laser aiming module on the right side because the magazine will be taken out on the left side. A full length top rail is added for maximum accessory-friendliness.

The standard package contains one 50-round longitudinal magazine, and a set of QS-optimalised DiamondHead sights, which can be used when flipped down as well, thanks to the neon red fiber optic pistol sights that has been added to them.

Quicksilver Ind. produces top of the notch firearms made for easy and cheap mass production, while maintaining very high quality. Our firearms will always be fully ambidextrous, two toned, operator-friendly and accessory-friendly.

I have to say, this thing came out great. I have spent so much time looking at the PDW-57 from Black Ops II, and thought "I can do this better". It turned out that the PDW-57 is designed very well actually, and it was more than a challenge for me to top that.
I've had a lot of fun building this, and I believe it turned out amazing as well. Two victories for me

Don't tell me "it looks like a PDW-57 from Black Ops", because it IS a combination of the Magpul PDR and the PDW-57.

Yours truly,
~ Shockwave

Interesting. Thank you very much!
Also I might actually update this design one day. Itโ€™s so old!

I'd like to ask where the spent cartridges are ejected? Is it a forward ejector, or a downward ejection system?

Downward, where the red arrows are behind the pistol grip

Sounds like it'll be a bit hard to update, this weapon looks good and distinct as is, but whatever you got as an idea, go for it.

Yeah just moving around some parts to have it make more sense, update the graphics a bit, you know

I was referring to the fascination with a specific firing mode in modern firearms, not a video game franchise that is so copy-paste that it has to rip off Resident Evil to keep going.

Shockwave9001 In reply to SnowblindOtter [2017-03-16 02:15:06 +0000 UTC]

Meaning you do understand the fascination of bolt action, lever action, pump action and revolving rifles?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

SnowblindOtter In reply to Shockwave9001 [2017-03-16 02:37:38 +0000 UTC]

I have a respect for single-action rifles, yes.

Speaking in a realistic fashion, however, I don't understand the fascination between it always having to be 'one or the other' when the middle-ground between both is statistically superior in 90% of cases.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Shockwave9001 In reply to SnowblindOtter [2017-03-16 02:40:49 +0000 UTC]

That's completely dependent on the situation, and the intended use of the weapon.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

SnowblindOtter In reply to Shockwave9001 [2017-03-16 02:48:56 +0000 UTC]

In any rifle system that features a reliable action cycle that is able to reset itself between rounds, I have found I personally prefer a burst-automatic firing mode unless what I'm shooting at requires fine precision.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Shockwave9001 In reply to SnowblindOtter [2017-03-16 02:52:13 +0000 UTC]

My unit doesn't have burst firing weapons, only semi or automatic. We generally only use the semi firing mode.
I have to say I have no experience with burst firing weapons, but I suppose there's a good reason most modern weapons don't have burst anymore.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

SnowblindOtter In reply to Shockwave9001 [2017-03-16 06:58:57 +0000 UTC]

If I recall, the standard issue M16A4 is Burst/Semi variable. I believe the primary reason why burst-automatic weapons fell into decline was the complexity of the sear.

Lord-DracoDraconis [2016-03-26 20:20:38 +0000 UTC]

you're right about how well designed the PDW-57 is, probably the best designed weapon in BO2

this has a SIMILAR look, but it unique enough that I can tell the difference (more of the weapon is rearwards compared to the PDW-57, grip and trigger are more centrally placed, and the muzzle flash hider is very different (plus the color scheme is different from the standard {as in not using a purchasable weapon skin pack} color set of the PDW-57

Good job!

Its hard to try basing a design on an existing model and still make it look unique...though I've been doing that a lot lately...got a Mass Effect SMG (Based on ME2 & 3's Tempest) a GoW series Lancer MkII (With chainsaw bayonet), a Resistance Bullseye Chimerian Carbine, a CoD Ghosts TAC-12, and some Destiny weapons (two Hand Cannons, two Auto Rifles, a Fusion Rifle, and a Pulse Rifle)

How would that guns gas system look? A great improvement on a great design.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 2

Vernon682 In reply to Vernon682 [2014-08-14 12:08:07 +0000 UTC]

Im THINKING, a system like the uzi, or a system like the p90, seeing how small it is, a normal gas system would be too damn big. That rules out DI, and regular gas pistons, an uzis bolt is the right size, but the charging handle aint right, and its designed around a pistol mag type magazine, its a p90 type operating system.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 0

Shockwave9001 In reply to Vernon682 [2014-08-13 17:39:40 +0000 UTC]

I seriously do not know. Hell, I don't even know how the P90 works... Gotta look into that some day.
Thanks though!

Another beauty, though top loading might give fits during high stress periods.

Shockwave9001 In reply to Sandbagger1105 [2013-07-24 14:15:00 +0000 UTC]

You mean during high stress periods of the weapon or of the operator? Because the P90 has proven its reliability more than once in the past.

Thank you very much!

Misfit1991 [2013-06-28 09:08:11 +0000 UTC]

Must be hard to reload with that mounting rail there.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 2

Shockwave9001 In reply to Misfit1991 [2013-06-29 10:54:53 +0000 UTC]

Or, in case you're talking about the top rail, then this:
"All controls are on both sides of the weapon, and thanks to the QS patented "SideWinder Mechanism"ยฎ, the magazine can be taken out on both sides as well."
Meaning the magazine is taken out from the side, just like BO2's PDW-57.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Misfit1991 In reply to Shockwave9001 [2013-08-14 03:16:06 +0000 UTC]

It looks like tight fit to get the mag in there, plusย the user can't really see where it's going. I get what you said about the "SideWinder" mech but I'm just saying.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Shockwave9001 In reply to Misfit1991 [2013-08-15 14:06:12 +0000 UTC]

Not at all! There's a spring in the SideWinder

I did think about that. People shouldn't use damaged magazines though (in any gun, for that matter)

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 0

Shockwave9001 In reply to Misfit1991 [2013-06-29 10:47:10 +0000 UTC]

How is that? If you'd read the description, you'd know it says this:
"Side rails are on both sides, so when the shooter is right handed, you can easily mount a laser aiming module on the right side because the magazine will be taken out on the left side."

It definitely looks like the PDW-57, but I can see the Magpul PDR resemblance in there. Really awesome job. It's not everyday where someone makes a PDW-57 based weapon. Love the amount of detailing you put in the pic

Damn, that's a long time. Heh, makes me wish there was a code to make the gun on Pimpmygun. Was gonna make one for myself and save it to my PMG folder since one of my characters when I roleplay uses the PDW

caiobrazil [2013-06-04 22:42:24 +0000 UTC]

great desing! although i have never played CoD: BO2, i have taken a look at the weapons and it looks much better than the PDW-57 itself.
also, these iron sights... that was a great idea to add the additional optical fiber sights so they can be used while folded.
after all, it could save someone's life in an emergency.
