Description My pride and joy, the Lutece twins! After finishing up my work for Elizabeth, Irrational hit me up to take a pass at these lovable rapscallions, the scientific minds behind the technology of Columbia. They play a surprisingly huge role in the game, so I've been really flattered to see how many fans they've accumulated over the past couple of months. Granted, let's be honest, most of that is probably because of the amazing writing in the game, but I'LL TAKE WHAT I CAN GET.

I hope everyone realizes that these two are meant to look like they just walked straight out of Leyendecker illustrations,

We're they always meant to be the same person from the start or was that something you influenced or that just naturally developed as the game progressed?

Aah, so I've been looking at these back in 2013 and just a week ago I played and finished the game for the first time. The twins looked strangely familiar... They're my favourite characters in the game and I do agree they're amazingly written but character design itself is also hella important and these two look amazing. The looks convey personality very well. Fantastic job!

Wow I just remembered you were the artist who designed Elizabeth's appearance. She's basically my no.1 favorite heroine of all. I really adore the works you've done for Infinite!

Some questions, hope you don't mind answering:

1. So did you designed both Liz's first costume and her second one (her famous velvet blue dress)?? What about her Burial at Sea look?

2. Also, what's your top favorite time period to design costumes for? Edwardian is absolutely my cup of tea!

O_O This was you? WOW! I just finished playing this game for the first time ever, and went looking for art from it, and there you were. How did I miss these when you posted them? I loved the designs in this gameβ€”all of it. The Lutece twins were my favorite characters. I loved the look of them and Elizabeth, especially her first costume. You did a beautiful job, seriously. I can't say enough.

Just wanted to say I really love your designs!! I would see cosplays of these two and really wanted to do one myself, but never looked into where they were from. Over spring break my friend introduced me to the game and we all played it together and loved it. I'm hoping to cosplay Rosalind sometime soon aaaa. <3

I do so love Rosalind's default expression. It conveys the kind of certainty that would be called arrogance if she were ever wrong (but she's Rosalind Lutece, so being incorrect is kind of a non-issue).

Sometimes I just come back to your bioshock concepts after not having seen them in a while because they make me so happy! It also reminds me how much I love your artwork. If you don't mind my asking - and if you have time - what was your path to become a concept artist? I'm trying to head in that direction myself.

I was never quite sure about Miss. Lutece and her tie. On the one hand it does seem like her to wear something button-down and formal like that, but on the other not wearing one would make her, the female-version of the twins, that much more feminine.Β

What was your thinking?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

shoomlah In reply to starshinecruzer [2013-09-12 21:43:36 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure what you're saying- what about wearing a tie makes her "un-feminine", and what makes a tie "formal"? What they're wearing is actually daywear, so it's much more on the casual/sportswear end of the Edwardian fashion spectrum. Β THere are numerous examples of women in ties during the period, it's actually a pretty common accessory:Β upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia…

Very good point. Her styles are very much in step with the burgeoning fashion movements of the time. I suppose I was thinking more in terms of the alternate outfit pictured here,Β fc08.deviantart.net/fs71/f/201… .

However considering the design objective was to emphasize how the twins are basically the same person yet from different dimensions, choosing a collar/tie combination they could both sport makes much more sense. I was coming at it from the opposite perspective, that even though the look/think alike their differences should be emphasized, and that defeats the purpose of the "exercise", and Miss. Lutece might say.

Something about her reminds me of Captain Jane Way. Maybe its the scientific mind and femininity together or maybe it's the hair. I just know I love both characters

These two made the game for me. Being an amateur historic tailor and a huge fan of Leyendecker, Mucha, and Gibson, these two really honed in the period and their appearence lovingly captured the somewhat playful and cheerfully decorated Edwardian era. There was so much structure in Edwardian fashion, but without being as gloomy or serious as the Victorian era before it. Gah, I love this!
Anyway, these two captured that feeling a lot better than Elizabeth's jug-tastic Lady Comstock gown and short hair at the end of the game.

Your work on these character designs is great; you kept them simple, which is really part of their charm, I think. The Lutece "twins" are just SO unassuming, which makes their oddness and importance that much cooler. I mean, for me, anyway. Idk about other folks.

Nevertheless, I love these two, and I love your work on them. Cheers!
