Lame title is lame, and why it looks crocky is that it's a photo.... still no scanner here -.-Well, this is just a small comic showing my reactions to Dante's new design, and comparing my thoughts on the older ones. ~Ixbran suggested that I'd draw this after he showed me the new Dante, because that was my reaction XD
Not that I'd think the new game will suck, just that I don't like Dante's new design, but I've found myself quite curious to this reboot of the series, but what annoys me the most is that he SMOKES! Though I find fictional smoking really cool, Dante doesn't smoke. He never has and never would either.
Can anyone guess whom is my fav Dante? : D

My BF got me into the series but so far I just have the reboot. I don't like the new Dante (aka Donte) a whole lot but I was able to change his skin to the "classic" Dante. But when I get and start playing the original four games and THEN go back to the reboot...I might realize: "Wait..I actually liked this [the reboot] crap?!"
I love the weapons, demons, boss fights, and I dig the music, but that's all. The story is 'ehhh' and there's a LOT of goofs: Unnecessary zooms on Donte's face when nothing interesting is going on, how the cutscenes keep changing him back to the standard Donte instead of the classic Dante I chose... I recently unlocked the Son of Sparda mode and now I'm just trying to unlock the rest (Dante Must Die, Heaven or Hell, Hell and Hell) but I might abandon that goal whenever I get my hands on the original DMCs.
What I'm trying to say is that I wanna learn to appreciate the TRUE Devil May Cry story/gameplay before it's too late.

Dante from the fourth game was absolutely gorgeous. I remember reallyΒ getting a good look at him when he was sitting on the pew in the church while fighting Nero, and just thinking: "Well damn. he got sexy all of a sudden. And I am loving that facial hair they gave him"
Which made me feel a little awkward, cause he's a video game character and all.
The new Dante?....Eh. Not saying he's ugly. I mean, he's hot when he's shirtless. But, I'm just not feeling him.
Ironically, my first introduction to the DMC games was through the new Dante. I own All Star Battle Royale, and he was included. I never liked his face; seems to narrow to me. I didn't even realize right away that he was a rebooted Dante. Wasn't till I paid attention to what game he was from, that I was like: "Wait, Dante is a big guy with white hair and icy blue eyes. This is a kid with brown hair and pale gray eyes."
Β When I went to buy the DMC, I couldn't find the reboot anyway. So, I decided to buy all the original four, to play them in order, and get the full game experience. I liked the first one, and the second was good. Though Dante was silent, and I missed his shit talking persona. By the time I got to Dante's Awakening, I was hooked. When I played the fourth one. I was like: "Best. D. M. C. EVER!"
Then I got to the reboot.
There was just an entire list of Nope going on in that game. I mean, the opening scene was bad. The used looking hooker (Honestly, did she think she was sexy????), with the comment about the world being the bad guys bitch, bend it over.....No, please don't. I don't want to see this guy bending ANYthing over. And then, the introduction to new Dante. My reaction: "Wow. And angry drunk" Him opening the door to his trailer to let the girls in: "OPENING the door? pfft. Original Dante would have just kicked it down."Β New Dante's fighting technique?: "Why the hell is he stumbling? He's so sloppy." My introduction to Vergil: "Damn. They fucked him up too. The Bowler hat was wrong. Add the cane, and it was just flat out nope."
I got to the part where Kat was drawing the symbol, and told Dante one of the ingredients was squirrel semen. My reaction: "Are they jerking off squirrels in this game???"
I turned it off, and haven't played it since. I still own it. But, I'm contemplating if I should give it another try, or just trash it.

Ohh, don't get me started on how fine DMC4 Dante is. OMG he's too fine for words. (I know his a video game character, but we can't deny how damn fine he is!)
I remember the first video we got of the DmC Dante and my jaw just dropped. I wondered who the hell that hellspawn was. That sure as hell was Dante! But yes, they then 'prettied' him up and made him easier to look at. But that doesn't change the fact that he won't be as great, sassy or just as bad ass as the original series Dante. Hell even DMC2 Dante has more class and style.
I have only played parts of the first game and not the second. I've played three and four (four being my fave.).
I very much understand what you mean with how bad DmC was. It was fun to play but story and the characters were just ugh. I remember that I did get a small laugh at how much Dante and Vergil actually acted like brothers.
Give it a try if you want to, it's not the best game in the world and the original games are more enjoyable.

I just miss Dante's white hair, and icy blue eyes. Not to mention his goofy personality. Like in the fourth one during the cut scene titled Dante And Dagon.
When Dante encountered those demon ladies, and they beckoned to him, I cracked up when he went: "Baby yeah!"
Β And I died laughing in the Agnus Redux scene. I remember thinking: Who is working the stage lights? Trish and Lady? And there was just something adorable about Dante in the Lucifer scene.
All in all, original Dante will always be better. I think the rebooted Dmc could have worked if it HADN'T been a reboot. Like, if they had just released a brand new game, with a new character, name, and what not, then the game would have been fine. Too me, a reboot wasn't needed.
As for part of the storyline, where new Dante was apparently tortured as a child, I could actually picture that happening to old Dante, and well as old Vergil. I could imagine that being the reason why the brothers drifted apart. Like, after Sparda and their mom was killed, someone kidnapped them, and tortured them before they could escape. The torture left Dante with a need to kill demons, and Vergil with a need to prove that he would never be weak enough to be captured and tortured again.
THAT I could easily picture.
Also, I feel like new Dante, or Donte, as people on youtube have been known to call him, tries to hard to be cool.

Ya know, I don't even like the Devil May Cry games (there's nothing really wrong with them, there just not my thing personally) but I have always really liked Dante. He was suave, laid back, cool, collected and just all around a fun character. I've always thought they did a good job on him. Then DmC came out......everything about this new Dante makes me want to shove his head into a meat grinder.

No, they have entirely changed the story ._. For instance, Dante is both half demon and half angel, no longer human. He (spoiler) kills mundus at the end of the game. He isn't entirety in an imaginary land, limbo city is somewhere in America if I am not wrong. And more ._. But I believe in the next game's ability to make Dante look cool again

3 and 4 Dantes are my favs. It's a shame about what they did in DmC, especially since it's a good game. If DmC had been it's own thing, then we all would have been really happy.

That's your opinion. I personally prefer DMC4!Dante the best. This was drawn when the game was announced. I've played the new game (even bought it with the limited edition pack) and found it very enjoyable. It's not perfect but it was a good play even so. This Dante was kind amusing too and I got a chuckle out of him or two. But he's not the best IN MY OWN OPINION.

Some people just don't want to know that really. They go there way to hate the game. It's really silly and petty thing to do.
Then again, the game isn't perfect and will not be as the original series was. The new Dante will never be as charming and lovable as the original is. But is that worth hating a pretty fun game? Not IMO.

well now that I, myself know that i feel much better because i was thinking it was the 5 DmC game and it made me sad but i am happy now, and it really is a good game but like you i love the original series of DmC ?=Β‘(love nero from the 4)

The original series is better, but DmC had a lot of fun gaming. The best game in my own opinion is DMC4 :3 where Dante is at his best (A MAN TO BOOT!)

DMC4 Dante will always be my favourite.
It irks me that people call it DMC5. It's not. It's a reboot and not to be in the original series. It's a good and fun game, that it is and such a thing as 'white hair or no' shouldn't be the issue. He isn't the Dante we all know and love, yet again, reboot.

Poor old Dante... I use him alot in Marvel VS Capcom. He's a sexy badass and they sucked away his great personality and turned him into a man whore drugged-up cunt! I've been wanting to get the games, and getting into the series myself but this is a huge punch in the face to the old fans... >_>

Yeah, that was my reaction when I saw the new Dante for the first time. I was like "What the...?!"
In case you didn't know, Capcom's Devil May Cry series have lots of magic and fantasy elements in them. The Fantasy elements are mixed in with Horror Elements, and that's why the Devil May Cry video games are also called "Dark Fantasy Video Games."
For the normal 4 numbered games, they have lots of magic and fantasy in them, and with a dash of dark elements in them.
Gosh, Capcom knew how to get so creative with genres back in the day.
