Lame title is lame, and why it looks crocky is that it's a photo.... still no scanner here -.-Well, this is just a small comic showing my reactions to Dante's new design, and comparing my thoughts on the older ones. ~Ixbran suggested that I'd draw this after he showed me the new Dante, because that was my reaction XD
Not that I'd think the new game will suck, just that I don't like Dante's new design, but I've found myself quite curious to this reboot of the series, but what annoys me the most is that he SMOKES! Though I find fictional smoking really cool, Dante doesn't smoke. He never has and never would either.
Can anyone guess whom is my fav Dante? : D

This is just a reboot experiment for Capcom. They've said themselves that that guy ISN'T the Dante we all know and love.

E3 will determine alot, but I'm one to vote this experiment a "fail" right now. Expecially if you watch any of the interviews with the Ninja Theory staff. They dare to call themselves fans and talk like that? The one with the beard said that Dante, the original you're purring over, needed to be less "fashionista" and that this kid was them "toughening him up". If they had tried to pass this off as original canon, we'd all probalby linch them.

They are really pushing it with their new 'Dante' since Dante is a very well beloved character. And it is his awesome and bold design (with the silver hair/eyes and red and black outfits) that make him so great.
One thing that bothers me so BADLY is the fact that the new Dante smokes. It's UTTERLY against Dante's character. He would never smoke, it was stated by his creator and in (the sadly enough non-canon since they made DMC3) novela. Dante is AGAINST smoking.

I can understand that and he's much cooler for it. I've not gotten my hands on the light-novel, novela, whatever word applies, but I wouldn't mind if I had any extra money. I was brought into the series at DMC3 and haven't ever actually played the original, but I know the story and have seem most of the cutscenes (thank you youtube) so I know what his personality was like.
Now I'm one for letting things be as the creator wanted, but may I point out that Kamiya hasn't worked on a Devil May Cry since the first one. In a Tweet conversation I found, he says he's missed Dante since he left him. Just to illistrate change, Devil May Cry 4 Dante might not even be the same Dante if Kamiya had been left in charge of everything. I don't want this kind of thing (DmC) to happen to my work when I finally get to that stage.
Having said that, I think that Kamiya's prodigal son needs to come home. I think the best thing that might could happen to Devil May Cry is for Kamiya to be given rights to Devil May Cry. At that point we can at least be garunteed that this kind of reboot would never happen again. I don't want to loose any of the newly estabilished characters that might not have come to be under Kamiya's direction, but we know he would stay true to his own original vision.
I know some are looking forward to seeing what the game will play like, but I don't expect much out of Ninja Theory. Heavenly Sword played like God of War and I haven't touched the Journey to the West game (again, no money) but I just don't think that it will be all that great. Now if it were its own game and not wearing the Devil May Cry name I might be more lenient of it, but I have high expectations of what is Devil May Cry and this thing's vibe ain't it.
By the way, are there any similarities between the novel Virgel and the Devil May Cry 3 Virgel (I assume Gilver is Virgel)?

Hehe, well I was brought into the series with first the novela because my friend, introduced me to the series since he thought I would like Dante. After that, I read all I could find on DMC online before I got the anime, watched that and then played DMC3.
Oh, I know he hasn't worked on the DMC franchise since the first game. But in one way, it hasn't been as bad as the Final Fantasy series after Sakaguchi left SE (it went downwards after FFX....) And with the coming game.... DmC... urk, doesn't have the same feel that the previous games did (though I haven't played anything prior to DMC3) but perhaps this game will make people like DMC2 XDD
Well, it's quite easy to assume that Vergil and Gliver is the same person. But it was such a long time ago I first read the novela and now I have lended my copy out to So I can't really say right now~

I know what you mean. This thing doesn't have the same vibe as the others at all. Even if you wanted to change the vibe for the sake of a reboot, this thing just fails. I agree about Final Fantasy. FFX was my first EVER. That is a very high bar to set. One thing I think they need to do is to stop making MMOs in their numbered instaulments. Just make a "Final Fantasy Online", maintain it, and let that be your MMO. As for Gilver, I was told her was Vergil, I may be misinformed.

FFVII was my first, then IX and after that Origins and THEN X, but after that, it just lost it. FFXIII is somewhat of 'we want to recapture the hype of VII' which is silly, but I digress.
Yeah, this THING has nothing that even HINTS on being a DMC game. It's more of a person with SEVERE mental problems BELIEVING that he's Dante.
As for the Gliver part, I kept things vague because I don't like to spoil. But if you really want to know the truth about Gliver, I'll gladly tell you.

I have FFVII but haven't played it much. I screwed up with the first boss then it got burried in my room's mess and I've only just now found it. I might have just found my "kill Summer's dulldrums" for this year. As for Gilver, I just want to know if I'm right. If that can be a simple "yes" or "no", I'm good, if you think it'd be better for the sake of the story to leave it an unknow, tell me so. I want to get this book now anyway.
P.S. Just to put it on the record, I hate missing my own typos. Last comment I wrote "..her was Vergil". (Bang head on table) Okay I'm over it.

Ah, then yes, Gliver is Vergil. For fans of the franchise it's pretty much out there in the book anyway.

Dante 4, Dante 3, and Dante 1 are my most favorite Dantes, as For 2 well he's not bad, DMC2 takes place in way future so his attitude is more like Vergil only less cold and more Like their Father at least i think

i went on the devil may cry wiki site and on his bio says he hates Humans and Demons with an almost Sadistic pleasure at least that's what i read.

he sounds like someone who's father is gone and who's mother died both when he was a kid... combinde being something he hates, demonic, and you get a moody teenager who is angry at the world and looking for a fight regardless of who its with. The hating humans thing is more to do with people in authority positions, cops and the doctors in the mental hospital he ends up in... at the very least he'll give us some cool fight scenes.

I'm pretty sure he'll be quite annoying in my own opinion, he's so different from the Dante I adore, and does take away a lot of the charm of the games. But then again, we'll never know until the game comes out.

It was posted on devilmaycry.org that he's not actually dante, but an insane person that thinks he's Dante.
Another rumor is that nero lost kyrie went insane and calls himself Dante now.
