Lame title is lame, and why it looks crocky is that it's a photo.... still no scanner here -.-Well, this is just a small comic showing my reactions to Dante's new design, and comparing my thoughts on the older ones. ~Ixbran suggested that I'd draw this after he showed me the new Dante, because that was my reaction XD
Not that I'd think the new game will suck, just that I don't like Dante's new design, but I've found myself quite curious to this reboot of the series, but what annoys me the most is that he SMOKES! Though I find fictional smoking really cool, Dante doesn't smoke. He never has and never would either.
Can anyone guess whom is my fav Dante? : D

though I'm really hoping they somehow tie this in with the rest decently... cuz leaving it at "oh it's a different dimension" or "we're rebooting the series to appeal to a younger audience" is total bull.....

What I've heard is that they are rebooting the series to attract the Western gaming world, which I find very stupid, 'cuz DMC is very well known here already. And everyone that loves hack 'n slash knows DMC.

My favorite design also. I don't like the new design either. Now, most people who are making fun of the fans are saying we are just focusing on the design and for me that isn't necessarily so. Yes, the design was a shock. But if he changes to the Dante we know, I could live with a little punk at the beginning but I don't see that this is going to happen. The trailer gave no indication of that. The trailer sets the tone, direction and art direction of the game. From what we have seen of this little teaser it does not appeal to a large, large majority of the fans. And you would expect that a trailer/teaser is there it excite and entice. It does neither.
As a reboot I find that most upsetting. There are a lot of lose ends in DMC and stories to be explored. I feel Capcom just passed one of their most popular franchises off and they are letting the story be rewritten when it doesn't need to be. That they are doing a reboot means that THIS is the direction the new developers want and I don't see they want to revisit the old.

I agree, it's not that he looks so different that bugs me the most, it's the fact that he's black haired and that he smokes, I do not mind a reboot really, just curious where it'll go and who knows, the game might even be fun! And it's just better to be open minded
I agree there really, there's so much with the, 'original canon', perhaps we should call it so? XD And yes, Devil May Cry is a big franchise to just 'put to rest' like that, even though I am curious to what it'll be.
And I read that in the 4th game, they added Nero because, they didn't want Dante to 'get weak again', like starting over again when it was a sequel.

I don't like it that much, and it bothers me that the design is different, but from what we've seen and heard of him his personality doesn't feel Dante either. It's more or less some character that just share the same name and the same gun x'D
But I won't say my final opinion about this until they've released more about it and eventually when the game is released and I've played it. Who knows, maybe it's really good.

well, after seeing the trailer I am curious about the game. I saw a few scenes where patches of his hair was white. So I have a feeling that as the game progresses his hair will start to change color. probably a signification that the more he embraces his demonic half, the more white his hair will become maybe? overall i like the way the game looks, but I have to agree with you that I like the older versions of him much more.

I can understand that but throughout the original series it seems that while he acknowledges his demonic side he did not embrace it or place the importance of it like he did on being human and having a human heart.

I just think that's speculations. Capcom has come out and told that he's not the 'real' Dante. I don't fully know what they mean, but that's what they said.
