Description
I do, I'm proud of my Asperger's Syndrome.Apparently many are thinking that I'm using this in a way of saying "I'm special" and that I take advantage of the perks of having Aspergers. I am not. Just like you guys, I struggle too... Im saying this in a way of self-confidence, and being proud and finding the positive in having a disability that I given, and that which I can not change. I am not a boastful person, nor an attention seeker, as some of you would know, Im EXTREMELY self-conscious and much too low a self-esteem. I meant this as sort of 'Gay Pride' thing but only with Aspergers instead. I support Autism Awareness, Gay Pride, Aspergers... why cant you take pride in Autism... nothings wrong with you, that 'wrong stuff' is just people's opinions. They all have there ups and downs as well, but that's not 'wrong'.
I do hope that I took care of this issue... if not, then as my friend Ashley suggested, just to remove the ability to comment. I honestly dont want to do that, because I love to hear the comments about all the other proud Asperger's... it's just that, if this fighting does not stop, I will be forced to.
And thank you for defending me. I GREATLY appreciate it... And I must say, you guys seemed to go completely over your heads, probably a little too much, but, I appreciate it anyway.

Taking pride in aspergers is stupid. I also have aspergers myself. I was diagnosed with it when I was 10. Just, the same as i think gay, straight, black, white pride is stupid. Hope nobody is going to take this as a way to shame anybody, because I am not. Its good to accept yourself, but never expect the world to accept you. Hell, I accept myself and don't expect the world to do it. I discriminate plenty of soy boys and hipsters for fun. I also hate hippies. See people? Even some one with aspergers could discriminate.

Some scholars contend that great figures of history had strong traits of Asperger's syndrome, as physicists Albert Einstein and Isaac Newton, the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, the naturalist Charles Darwin, the Renaissance painter Michelangelo, filmmaker Tim Burton, the scientist Temple Grandin, co-founder and former Apple CEO, Steve Jobs.

I have aspergers too and i found this art AMAZING! Art is something that one can take a glimpse into another person's mind, see that person for who they are not what illnesses they have. If you can't differentiate the expressive and impressive art that Shortwired has created then move along; go troll on someone else's page. There's nothing for you to see here if you can't take the time to view past the sentence "I take pride in my aspergers" and look into her mind. Idk about shortwired but I have trouble communicating to people face to face. I have an IQ of 140. People with aspergers aren't crazy psychos like the news tries to portray. I think its BULLSHIT the way everyone has behaved on this page; you should all be ashamed of yourselves. You are supposed to learn from people's art not burn it! kharnthebetrayerplz sees aspergers as a curse....its not a curse at all, I am gifted at many things because of my aspergers....and I have just recently come to accept that I am different but I am a good person; I joined the USMC right after high school was an MP on the K-9 unit for 5 years and have an honorable discharge from service. So before you go judging people maybe you should read up on aspergers before passing your platitudinous judgments upon people you don't even take the time to get to know.Β

I hope you don't mind if I set this as my desktop background on my work computer. I have Asperger's as well. Like you; I wouldn't change the talent or knowledge base I've been given by my abilities to tune people out and tune into a good book about medieval warfare, king arthur, mythology ect. I am also very much self-conscious and hate it when people call me a retard among other derogatory names. Little minds achieve little things. people who can't simply accept us for our natural ability to be unique and different are no better than people of the past who burned innocent people alive at the stake in the Salem witch trials. I don't let negativity in my life anymore, it fogs up my view of our beautiful planet and all of the other more beautiful souls. keep your chin up! I have your back.Β
If ignorance is bliss then why aren't more people happy?

It's totally fine Life is so much more tolerable and beautiful without negativity. Maybe it's the fact that people tend to be afraid and reject the things they don't know through their ignorance.

I am not proud of having AS.
I'm neither ashamed.
It's something I have no control over, and I haven't caused, chosen, or asked for it.
I see no reason to be proud of it.

lol, I can't believe it, someone who shares my point of view on that topic.
Nearly everywhere I see people that are either proud or ashamed of having AS (but most of those I saw where proud).
You are the 3rd or 4th person that I met and shares my viewpoint on that.

I know exactly how you feel, there isn't a day I don't wake up wondering why I was born with my Aspergers. I didn't ask to be born this way but I only want to live and be loved for who I am.....an Aspie.
Like if homosexuals can be accepted for who they, why can't we also?Β
We're good people like everyone else shouldn't we have our fair share at life?

There isn't anything wrong with having Autism and I am now learning to not let use it as a crutch.Β
People wants us to feel bad for thinking and seeing the world differently and just because a lot of them haven't evolved yet, they still ridicule as a means of a way of handling something they don't understand :/Β
I think that it depends on the Aspie's environment that they grew up in or if they ever got help in developing their obsessions/interests or any help or experience with socializing with people. I had to socialize with friends or go and play with my brothers ...
I guess the point is that I'm proud to have Asperger's as well...

I agree with this totally. I'm always correcting people when they say
'oh so your disabled?'
'No, i'm differently-abled'
What i dont like is people who claim we are being snobby by saying positive stuff about aspie, i would like to ask how come all those negative things can be said about aspie but as soon as we mention the positive we're classed as snobbish when itds supposed to be socially acceptable for others treat us like we're broken or something? (dont even get me started on the whole 'cure aspie thing' if i wanted to be eliminated i'd put a gun to my head, apsie makes me who i am, take it away u take me away.)
yes my aspie causes me problems but i dont have problems that some nt's have. (nt is a lable that non-aspies have, if we have a lable then i'm sure non-aspies would agree they are not above having one too)
ahh rant over, its always good to get things off ones chest

I'm proud of having this disability, not ashamed of it. Being an Aspie is both a curse and a gift. Thank you for doing this, I am entirely proud to be this, and an insult to my disability really hurt my feelings.

I think it is a good thing that I have Asperger's Syndrome since it has allowed me to question society and social norms(Are all of them really THAT advantageous to humanity? Why is it more "important" to fit in by doing foolish things than to stand out by avoiding said foolish behavior? Why do you get more respect from people by partying than by working hard?) and has kept me from following the crowd blindly and succumbing to peer pressure(which leads people to do foolish things).
