Description
I often see those "Shut up you're not Japanese" stamps floating around. And I'll admit, it does bother me to see an anime fan saying "That's so kawaii!" at random. ^_^ But then that got me to thinking: at least they're making the effort to educate themselves on a completely different culture. That deserves merit! So I don't care if you can say "Kawaii desu" or "Watashi wa sukoshi nihongo hanashimasu," or stuff like that. You've still taken the initiative to learn something! And to me, that's the first step to having a good relationship with other nationalities! That takes a lot nowadays! Here's my support stamp for learning new languages! =3Related content

That's depending on the person, actually. Some of these people only want to watch anime without subtitles. lmao

Yeah, me too. XD It's like, the people who make them are usually the ones who are into anime/manga style, and it's kinda like, well you're not a 'mangaka,' what are you doing drawing eastern style? It's simply a silly argument! 'Sides, there are a lot of other words we borrow from different languages!

This is late but i completely support this stamp, i always wanted to learn japanese.
Not for anime reasons, cos i never watch any anime nor do i read manga. I wanted to learn japanese
so i can visit japan one day and see it,s marvels for myself. It's also because of their mythology
i wanted to learn japanese, it,s one of the most facinating mythologies out there along with native american and meso-american mythology.

Omg. Can I marry you? LOLOLOL jk. You see you basically just said all of my thoughts in the description. I mean come on, sure it can be annoying, but pointing it out and saying "SHUT UP YOU'RE NOT JAPANESE" is really kinda rude...We're just practicing a language. Those people need to get over it and ignore it if they don't like it.

Indeed! I don't know what is all against people who try to use another language. If it was Russian or Spanish or French blended with English, would some people react the same?
I personally don't use too much other languages in my regular speak, but I support people who do! (My friends can get some Japanese in their sentences at times xD)

As much as I hate Japanese-spouting fangirls, you have a very valid point.
I'm just bothered by the fact that people get into the Japanese culture and language through anime, while I personally have been learning it for over 4 years because of pure interest...but that's just me.
Anyways, cool stamp

Agreed! On everything!
All to often (as an Australian born & bred), tourists come up to me and yell out, super-enthusiastic, "G'day!"
I think it's great! They're getting into the spirit of things and getting involved, even if it's the only word of English (or Australian) that they can speak

There's a difference.
Some people want to embrace Japanese culture as it is, and some people want to embrace Japanese MAINSTREAM and POP culture. A lot of the people who say "kawaii desu!" and "Watashi wa [insert Japananglish version of name here] desu!" are more interested in the mainstream of Japan, which would sadly be anime, manga, J-pop, and hentai. Occasionally, they'll throw in some Pocky and Ramen just for a little "diversity".
I appreciate people who actually try to learn the Japanese language because they really want to speak a forgein language that happens to be Japanese. Generally, these people will either review what they learned to others or attempt to use full Japanese sentences, not Japananglish. (A "did I say that correctly?" would also be a bit of a nice touch...) These people also need to try to learn the verbs, the different types of grammar in Japanese, and not just what all their favorite words and phrases are in Japanese.
A wannabe Japanese, however, often uses ONLY words like "kawaii desu ne! I love your chibi kawaii style! ^____^" and not try to extend their knowledge of the Japanese language further. They will not attempt to learn to read and write katakana, nor do they know that what they're doing is actually called romaji (which, back who-knows-when when I was also a wannabe Japanese, I used to do all the time and not even know what romaji was). They include words from anime that they think sound cool. Many of them simply don't understand that throwing in "baka" in an argument does not earn you multilingual-type respect, but in fact more ridicule and disrespect from many wannabe Japanese-haters.
These "wannabe Japanese" (let's call them weabboos to be brief) people often use incorrect Japanese terms ("Watashi wa ai anata aruto desu!"), and when people call them out on this and correct their grammar, quite a few will get angry at people who were actually born in Japan for flaming their multilingual skills. After this is over, they click on their profile and learn they are from Japan, and then immediately try to become friends with them.
Many people also start dA chains where they say "are you really from Japan? I want to make friends from there. I'm learning Japanese and I really like sushi and pocky and Ramen so I think it would be cool to go to Japan and meet a Japanese friend." Now these are what make me really angry, that all Japanese people are exactly like how people in anime are...as soon as you discover writing fanfics.
The anime Lucky*Star! also created a fanbase of "otakus" (or weabboos, there are differences in the people but not what they call themselves) who mistakingly believed that becoming a foreign exchange student and knowing how to say "Ohayo, minna-san! Ogenti desu ka? Watashi wa [name] desu!" would make them automatically accepted into a Japanese community. They even gave her blonde hair, blue eyes, and an extremely American name (Patricia Martin), thus making many weabboos believe that even having a more exotic, semi-Asian-sounding name would make them even more accepted, while the ones with the American-sounding names would be accepted as they were.
I really don't like people who comment with things like "kawaii desu ^______^". It makes me angry, unless they're using actual katakana or even just using it in a comprehendable sentence. The main things people post that they think makes them Japanese speakers (the ones almost always known by any Sailor Moon, InuYasha, or Naruto fan) are:
β₯Kawaii
β₯Desu
β₯Baka
β₯Sakura
β₯Neko
β₯Chibi
β₯Ne
β₯Ka (people count this and ne as real, separate Japanese words by themselves)
β₯Sugoi
There are a few more, but most of them are less common than the ones I've listed.
And yes, people do get angry when I post things like these because I draw/pixel/base edit in a manga-type way, but just because that's my second favorite style of art to work with, not because I want to be Japanese.
I wish people would cut it out with the Japanglish, overuse of desu, and belief that watching Naruto makes you able to become a ninja.

I concur, it does get annoying when you hear it too often! ^_^ (I can relate because I've actually taken two college courses of conversational Japanese, not to mention that since I've been a Japanese culture fan for over 10 years, I'm quite a burnout on the enthusiasm that comes from having delved into the intense study of the culture. Not to mention now that I'm married to a family that lived in the East Asian culture, it seems that I just can't escape it!) But I finally just realized that young people who grow an interest in the culture may be overenthusiastic, but hey, they're still kids! I can't hold something like that against young people who are still developing their frontal cortex. X3
I'm sorry to hear you've had such a bad experience with people criticizing your style! I've not heard of that before, since the east Asian style of art is now so mainstream. In fact, a lot of Asians practice Western styles of art, so throughout the world it's so mixed in! I'm really surprised to find someone who's having to go through that! Well, I definitely wish you the best!

I agree. My friends and I actually take time out our lives just to learn the FULL language of something instead of taking little snippets of it and adding it to our language.
My friend can speak fluent Japanese and even read it. (unlike me. ) and I'm close to being able to speak Spanish fluently.

I feel guilty for faving without commenting, so I shall now X)
I feel learning Japanese is a lot easier than learning Spanish (for me xD). Spanish just seems complicated I learned a year of Japanese, and I wanted to take the 2nd year of it during my senior year, but it was too late (the teacher left the school
). So I had to take year 1 of Spanish
I'm taking it again in college, since I never used Spanish at all during my time off from high school DX
I'm really hoping that they'll have a Japanese class soon They have Mandarin Chinese, but that's not good enough xD;;;

Take the opportunity to learn chinese too! Few people realize that this language could help you out immensely! I saw a tv show once where a man said that he thought that Chinese would one day be the language of educated people! Now he was a hippy, but I couldn't agree more with him simply because they are the largest nationality in the world! Take the chance now since you have it! =3 You can continue your Japanese at a later time, and even educate yourself on it!

I honestly don't like it when people abuse Japanese if they don't speak it fluently, but I don't mind them using Japanese at all if they're just being friendly. Hell, I'm learning because of my interest in alot of different Japanese things, and I use random phrases here and there out of habit. I'm even guilty of saying "Kawaii!" when I see something cute. (I never use it on the internet, however.) I don't have anything against anime fans that like using it, because I know myself that it's just a fun little thing for people with an interest in the Japanese style and language. It's just a part of freedom, and whether we have complete freedom in this world or not doesn't discriminate against us forming an opinion and being interested in something.
Lovely stamp! <3

Spanish may be a pretty common language so I guess that's why peple latch onto it more, but I LOVE spanish, it's fun and pretty easy to learn. Except my grammar has gone down the crapper >.<

Oh thank god! I've been fed up with the whole "Shut up, you're not Japanese" stuff for a long time now!
So what now? I'm Serbian. Does that mean I'm not allowed to speak any of the other 3 languages I know, because of my nationality?
BULLSHIT, I SAY!
And I agree with you, at least those people are making an effort to learn a new language. Even if it's just "kawaii desu" or something equally dim, as long as they grow past that, it's ok in my opinion.
