Description I often see those "Shut up you're not Japanese" stamps floating around. And I'll admit, it does bother me to see an anime fan saying "That's so kawaii!" at random. ^_^ But then that got me to thinking: at least they're making the effort to educate themselves on a completely different culture. That deserves merit! So I don't care if you can say "Kawaii desu" or "Watashi wa sukoshi nihongo hanashimasu," or stuff like that. You've still taken the initiative to learn something! And to me, that's the first step to having a good relationship with other nationalities! That takes a lot nowadays! Here's my support stamp for learning new languages! =3

It would be better if you learn to spell the words right... At least people wouldn't insult those who want to learn japanese.

92-pink-ravens In reply to ShouYume [2008-08-10 01:21:37 +0000 UTC]

I mean, to spell and write it in the original script. To write in hiragana and katakana.

ShouYume In reply to 92-pink-ravens [2008-08-10 12:07:13 +0000 UTC]

I could, but the whole point of this is to show people that they can learn other languages, and some people may not understand katakana, hiragana, and kanji, so I chose to use romanji, instead. ^_^; I'm sorry if this bothered you, I was just doing it the easiest way I could. Geez, you scared me! I thought I actually misspelled a word and started frantically searching for it! I was like, but this is how I learned it in college.... what did I misspell, what did I misspell?! XD But it's good that you're interested in learning the actual basic Japanese writing! =3 They're tough characters to learn at the start. =3

This stamp is great! The only time it really bugs me is when they say things because they're trying to "sound Japanese." It really just makes you sound silly...especially if they don't really know what it means.

I do have one correction, though D: In my Pimsleur language CDs, it tells me that it should be ordered as "Watashi wa nihongo ga sukoshi hanashimasu." The word "Japanese" goes before little, and it should have the particle "ga." I'm in the process of learning Japanese, so I could be wrong, but that IS what my CD says. Sorry if i bothered you for nothing xD;

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ShouYume In reply to SRHtheHedgehog [2008-07-25 20:08:49 +0000 UTC]

Really? '.' My text books explain that the particles 'wa' and 'ga' are the same kind of particle, but only one is used while the other is only used in certain circumstances, but you might be right! =3 I'll look it up when I get home. Thanks for the tip! =3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SRHtheHedgehog In reply to ShouYume [2008-07-25 20:26:26 +0000 UTC]

Well, [link] explains the particles in depth...basically, as far as I understand, "watashi" is the main focus of the sentence or topic, so it's marked with "wa," while "nihon-go" is the subject, so it's marked with "ga." They're similar and often taught that they're the same to beginners, but they're really not >< Well, the great thing about Japanese is that if you mess up and mix up some words or forget particles or something silly, then it won't really make much of a difference. "Broken Japanese" isn't really that big of a deal, so mistakes are allowed (which is a huge relief to us foreigners, ne? xD)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ShouYume In reply to SRHtheHedgehog [2008-07-25 22:55:11 +0000 UTC]

That it is! Yeah, they're not the same but are similar. THat's what makes it so difficult, I concur! I'll ask my old Japanese teacher to clarify the difference for me. Thanks! =3

I love your stamp for the sole reason that it's a nice deviation from the hotheaded borderline anti-otaku stamps out there. I have a fan girl for a sister and I find her annoying.

But guess what? It's not the way she talks.

It's the way she gets all tsundere every time I make fun of her fave char/pairings.

Honestly, all these haters are getting mad at wrong things.

I hate the word KAWAII sooo much!
It's annoying to the end!
I really hate it when people are saying word in japanese to make them look like they know another lanugages just by watching anime or reading manga!!
And when calling me chan, san, sama, or etc at the end of my name I feel mad I dont know why...

Lurkerbunny In reply to ??? [2008-06-29 03:06:28 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for making this stamp. I do hate the fangirls who use Japanese words without knowing what they actually mean because they make people like me, who know as little Japanese as they do (maybe a little more) but DO know the context and meaning look bad. -_-;; Because of them, well, I LIKE to use Japanese in my head and stuff, but I feel bad for doing so. Thanks, guys.

Yeah, that other stamp ticks me off (to put it mildly). You know, I asked a bunch of my friends why it's okay to use French randomly but not Japanese. They said it's because French has a history of being integrated into America while Japanese is only used by annoying fangirls (according to them). maybe they're right, but it shouldn't be like that. When it comes to using foreign words, either it's all okay or none of it is!

FINALLY!!! I am SOOOOOOOO using this! D8< Durn straight!

I am SOOOOO tired of people CONSTANTLY griping about people saying "konichiwa" and "kawaii desu!" SERIOUSLY, what's the DEAL?! It's offensive or even THAT annoying, and just about everyone knows what it means! I know some people who say that they don't like anime because of people who go around saying "kawaii desu" and they've never even WATCHED anime before! THAT'S what gets me, people are blowing this up into such a big deal and someone needs to pop their look-at-me-I'm-mad balloon! T3T Also, It's all because of spam. If you've noticed, people who get annoyed at this sort of thing always use spam as an example, I mean, how is just saying "cute" so much better and more exeptable than just saying "kawaii"? Both of them say the same thing, both are unhelpful spam, but the "kawaii" one is the one that people get their backs up about. *sigh* Nobody would care if someone put "kawaii" or "arigoto" in the middle of a long, thoughtful comment.

Am using this, thank you sooooooo much for making it! (my friend tried to make a similar stamp and she was flames mercilessly! ;_; )

I'm glad you appreciate it! =3 Yeah, it does get annoying to hear people gripe about it. What annoys me most is those who started out the EXACT same way, and just because they've been into the culture and language so long, they are in this mindset that they have authority to ridicule others who have gained a passion for it. ;_; Oh, well. I'm glad you like my stamp! =3
