Description
Ok just before I begin I just want to say that this is how I do hair. Doesn't mean there isnt other ways to do it and Im still trying to perfect my hair style so its not perfect. Oh and this is for Paint tool sai users. Also you can use this in your drawings just link to the tutorial in your artist comments~
How to Color Hair like Shushi~
1. You have your lineart layer. Make sure to have a layer underneath your lineart to color your hair.
2. On the layer underneath the lineart pick a color to use as a base color. I picked a light blue for mine.
3. Putting another layer above your base color click on the Clipping Group option above the layer options. Should be by Selection source and Preserve Opacity. That makes it to where you can color on a different layer but it shall not go outside of what you colored underneath. Take a darker color then your base color you color over the base color. Clicking on your eraser tool you put it on size 12 and density 20. Use your eraser to get a basic idea on where you lighting is.
4. It should look something like this when your done. Remember this is hair so its hard to figure out how to get the lighting right. All it takes is practice.
5. Using your pen tool and a new clipping layer set it to size 7 and density 18. Then put in all your highlights. Use a the base color or a little lighter then it. This makes it so its more like hair and less like a shaded mess X3
6.After your done it should look like this. Don't worry about messing up. I have to do this over and over again before i like it.
7. Here comes my favorite part. Putting in the big shine on the hair. Again using another clipping layer and pen tool. Use a bright color and it should be size 10 and density 18. Usually I put the shine right across the forehead but different things call for different shines. In the end its all practice and lots of ref images to go by X3
8. Using an even bright color all just a little more shine. Not to much or you'll over do it.
9. Using just a slightly darker color then you used for step 3 you click on your lineart layer (make sure the preserve opacity is on) and color your hair lineart. it gives it a little more then just leaving it black ~
Notes- Size on the brushes vary depending on the size of the image and the type of hair. Go nuts and practice different things. you might find something you like~
Hope this helps a little bit~ if you need some help on something i would gladly help you more <3
