Twilight: *looks through photo album* Awww. I remember this one. It was a few days after I got my cutie mark. I had a little tea party with my new baby dragon, Spike.
Alice: Ohhhh.~ You and Spike look so cute here... The only way you could be cuter was if you were BOTH babies in this picture!~
Twilight: True... But I like it this way better. If I were a baby, too, Spike and I would be more like siblings. I... kinda like the mom-son thing we've got going.
Alice: Was it always that way, Twilight?
Twilight: Well... no. See, as a filly, I thought it was too soon to let myself be called a mother. I mean, I was only a fresh student of Celestia, at the tender age of 8! I didn't know one thing about being a parent! Of course, Spike would sometimes call me "mama," like you've heard Bugzzy do sometimes... I tried to get him not to do that.
Alice: W... WHY? Were you ashamed for him to call you that?
Twilight: No!!! I... sigh... In my early years, peer pressure was my greatest enemy of all. And I lived in Canterlot, being a gossip capital in addition to our typical one. To hear a baby dragon calling a young unicorn filly his mother? Cute, yes. But many of the high-society ponies were just looking for something to jeer at, and they'd always be the first to take things out of context to that end.
Alice: Ugh. I SOOOO know what you mean. You remember what life was like when we first met, right? Being a grown-up mare without a cutie mark? I tell you; being called a "blank-flank" behind my back every 5 minutes was really wearing on me...
Twilight: I know. And my problems didn't stop there...
Alice: Oh, boy...
Twilight: I think I was the student most devoted to learning under Celestia. And what do I get? The "pleasure" of most other students calling me a "teacher's pet." That made me so upset, I felt like the only way I could make it through was to wall myself off from the world. Emotionally, I mean. So... That's why I was such a recluse when Mario first met me. I was hesitant to make friends because I felt like... everypony wanted a shot at me.
Alice: Gee, Twilight... I'm sorry... But, you don't feel that way NOW, do you?
Twilight: The opposite. Heeheehee… Now, the ponies I travel with--you included--aren't just pals I hang out with when I'm in a good mood. I also find myself running into their open hooves when I'm in a bad mood, too. My friends are my family. I'm lucky to have a family so huge, without them having to be necessarily related by blood.
Alice: Ha... Thanks. Well, I'm glad I was able to stumble into this family of yours... and even happier to be part of it.
Twilight: And so is my little Spike. (She looks upwards; his room is through the ceiling above them.) My son...

Alice: *wipes tear from eye* ...We really mean that much to you, huh?
Twilight: Exactly... And deep down... the feeling never stops getting stronger... With every friendship lesson we share, I can almost feel our bonds strengthening.
Alice: I'm... at a loss for words, Twilight... But hey. Anything that makes us less likely to fight amongst ourselves is a win in my book. With all we've been through, together or apart, Celestia knows we can never have enough of that magic.
Twilight: Hahaha... Well,there's more where that came from, Alice Goldenfeather. More than you'd ever know. ...And I'm gonna make sure that everypony in our group feels it just as strongly, whether they're from our world or not.
(Twilight and Alice hug each other quietly. A small tear can be seen in Twilight's eye...)
