they stem from a discussion on ponychan.they are not related to the piece of fanfiction that apparently exists.
they are just normal ponies from around equestria that just so happen to be the bearers of the elements of discord.

Pretty good so far, but I was thinking that the opposite of Rainbow Dash would be a very manipulative character, using ponies to her own ends and then dropping them like a hot potato when she's done. Would also probably look like G3.5 Rainbow Dash.
And for the opposite of Fluttershy, for some reason I kept thinking of Eric Cartman (from South Park) as a pony. Complete and total jackass. RESPECT MY AUTHORITY!
Opposite of Applejack...maybe Marisa Kirisame (from Touhou) as a pony? Master thief and pathological liar, as well as being highly skilled in magic (Applejack doesn't care for the "fancy mathematics" involved)
As for the opposite of Pinkie Pie, I was thinking of going in a slightly different direction. I was thinking more "despair" than just sadness. She could complain that life in general is just hopeless. Why should we stop Discord? The world is already random and brutal and cold, what more will a little more chaos do?
Opposite Twilight being science-based is a great idea, though!

How the hell could you hope to accomplish anything when most of the people (ponies) on your team openly admit to wanting to screw you over? Even the Nazis had loyalty going for them.

i can't remember the exact quote, or who said it, but it was approximately this:
"you can't trust honest people. dishonest ones, you can trust them to screw you over."
beside that, when you read the comics, you can see how the mirror convinces them. he first appeals to their desires, and then tries to justify the whole thing for them. cause they aren't BAD ponies per se, it's just in their nature. they may not be willing to die for him, but they will follow him up to a certain point.

well, the first conflicts have been solved already. (the comics with the shortening EoD) now i'm just working on the beginning, and afterwards the big battle.
