Description
Dear America,This is a letter because I love you.
You've started to act a lot like your father
The Roman Empire—you might say I'm bothered
by your rash behavior, your crass endeavors and plastic saviors.
A Coca-cola culture with varied flavors
Pre-package counter-culture and sell 'em rebellion
train the minds of young consumerist hellions.
Mental minions, warped opinions,
dominate the center stage.
Who be winnin'? Satan's grinnin',
They spit and drool, and froth with rage.
The macrophage this day and age
Consuming all in border raids
Ignoring disease, spreading AIDS.
Fuck! What can a sane person say?
No, no, I know you say
you go out of your way to save the day,
with your super-hero-messiah complex
to 'liberate' and 'democratize.' I see your nature
through your eyes, they dart back and forth
for your prize, buried
beneath the sands,
But no, you'd never terrorize.
America, you truest soul
History takes a blood toll.
We're the land of the free—the home of brave
Not the land of inequity, and the home of the slaves,
or of red and brown bodies buried in mass graves.
Ghost-dancing dust devils on light waves
Beaming rays right into your third eye, blinding
Indoctrination, misconstrued information grinding
our teeth trying to sleep, running wild, our imaginations
Give birth to fantastical abberations
that gouge out our eyes.
(we won't need them here)
N
ever fear
the eternal dark—
quickly shall it impress it's mark
through your chest, upon your soul
where it rests, a hole,
growing with the days
and the dead will roll over in their graves, chanting hymns in Jesus' praise—
the son of God or Cesare---inherited imagery
Will you see the err of your way?
consider logical socio-and-geopolitical
reconfiguration, sustainable ecological
reformation of practice.
practice makes perfect
and perfect takes practice
and you haven't the patience
for this kind of practice.
Oh, America---
Your blood-spattered banners
and star-spangled eyes,
drapes the altar of sacrificed lives
Slain in search of that ethereal prize
that dances, always just out of reach.
Your freedom's just a matter of speech,
In a word: absurd—the sermon you preach
Amplified, in ears you screech.
The sine waves that signify the breech of our minds
and skin, the cultural mores hastily woven
into shawls that draw our eyes away from proven
fact
with stunning displays,
while you redact,
redact,
redact.
But what's the power of an act?
It can stop a heart or bring it back,
forever shatter a soul intact.
Explosive charges tightly packed
Ready to prove God a matter of fact.
But I guess we can never test that pact,
if pressure placed, would surely crack
down the seams, echoing the themes
you sing drunkenly afternoon, memes
repeated, defeated, and repeated again
baited breath with dope and sin
hoping for a sudden win
against all odds.
Dear America—daddy called collect
from beyond the grave, said he'd dug yours with his spade.
Into the background you will fade.
Accept.
