SY Fantasy Layers Genesis 8 Female
Copyright 10/7/18 by Shalen Hamar (SickleYield)
------
Installation:
Unzip the zip file to a third location. Copy the data, runtime and People folders into your Daz3d library and choose Yes to merge.
Usage:
You will find the conformers under People/Genesis 8 Female/Clothing/SY Fantasy Layers. There is a Materials folder with all of the additional options. First conform one or all pieces to Genesis 8 Female in your scene, then apply the desired materials to achieve the intended look.
When you use these under tighter items, you will need to use morphs to expand those tighter items. Most items have enough extra morphs to enable this, but if they do not, you can add a mesh offset layer from your Scene Tab. Click an item in Scene Tab and then click the small button and choose Edit, then look for the "Add Push Modifier" option.

As I'm stubbornly clinging to G2 and G3 models, I'm wondering how well does this product handles the G8 to G3 auto-fit conversion through your utility? While I don't mind having to convert multi-part outfits or adding push modifiers to outer layers, some clothing naturally survives the process much better than others.

Should go perfectly. It has no extra bones.

I kept meaning to come back and buy this, once I had a few minutes free to look up my DA password and all that. The moment I saw it, my Id looked at my Ego, rather disapprovingly, and asked: "Why did you not come up with this idea?"
The Id would also say it was dumb to pay you for something I could make, myself, but it just likes money. It has no sense of the value of time, or of fair play - the Ego thinks you deserve this small paycheck (and more) for having come up with the idea and pointed it out to me.
(I have no idea why I decided to attempt humor by going into an Id/Ego dialog - it probably means I'm sleepy. )

First off, I just want to say that you are ABSOLUTELY my favorite PA. I buy just about everything in the "utility" category (Clones, autofitters, anything scripty) that you put out on principle. You make the Daz ecosystem work. Also, your availability to your customers, amazing tutorials, and general helpful attitude are simply miraculous. I hope your sales go well here, and that you end up netting as much or more than you would have through the Daz shop.
That said, question about this product- Could you speak a little to the product features? What are these conformers doing that a "second skin" texture or Geoshell couldn't do to accomplish a similar effect? It's your product, so I'm sure I must be missing something obvious here.
Also cheers on continuing to develop "products to rehab otherwise kind-of-useless skimp wear", you've always got the end-user-artist in mind.

Nope, they do exactly what a geoshell/second skin would do. In fact, they WERE geoshells at one point in the project, but I wanted more control of geometry flow and UV and ended up going with conformers instead. It's more that I couldn't find any geoshells that looked like complete clothing for G8F rather than lace body stockings.

Well, that's explanation enough! They definitely look more substantial somehow than the typical shell or skin. Will be picking up.

Got it. Thanks! I also spread the word in a couple of communities with some fantasy and sci-fi illustrators, so maybe that'll add a sale or two.

I'm going to pick this up tomorrow at the office, when I can sit down and work my through the purchase process. I'd love a sci-fi version, but I certainly understand the economics involved. But ... if you make one, I'll buy it.

While I did something like this myself in the past, yours look more professional, not to mention the convenience value. Gotta try it soon. Thanks.

As a sci-fi illustrator, I agree wholeheartedly.
...
As a fantasy illustrator, well ... I gotta add this to the toolbox.
Thanks!

Does that chainmail have padding underneath?
Chainmail is next to useless without padding... XD

SickleYield In reply to DannyAndYoko [2018-10-08 16:23:46 +0000 UTC]
It's sewn to a leather base (texture only).

SickleYield In reply to DannyAndYoko [2018-10-08 17:12:19 +0000 UTC]
That would defeat the purpose. Padding adds volume. Padding without volume would look worse than mail sewed to leather.

But without padding the armour doesn't work... XD

SickleYield In reply to DannyAndYoko [2018-10-08 17:54:51 +0000 UTC]
It doesn't work anyway. It's fictional. You can have fictional armor that doesn't cover anything and has no padding, or fictional armor that covers everything and has no padding. Those are the options, because it has to be able to be worn under other layers.

Looks fine to me. Not sure why Daz backed out. I will have to pick it up in a week or so. Been out of work for awhile.
Need to let us know how well this does for you selling it on here. I have been glad to have you around with all your advice and such on the vagaries of the online brokerage firms out there. With another good friend's help about to dive in myself in the next month.

SickleYield In reply to Noshoba [2018-10-08 19:17:53 +0000 UTC]
I'm sorry to hear you are out of work! That's really tough, and I definitely don't expect anyone in that situation to buy content. I remember what that was like.
Seven copies so far. That's abysmal. On the other hand, deviantart's cut is much smaller than Renderosity, so I may end up earning more from it than if I'd put it at Rendo all told. I've seen falling revenue from them on a per-product basis for two years in a row even as income climbed at Daz3d.
I do need a place to put products that are too small or experimental for Daz3d, or are sexy, or are violent. It may be worth putting the occasional project on dA for sale if it isn't one that took two weeks to make, like this did.

Noshoba In reply to SickleYield [2018-10-08 23:27:40 +0000 UTC]
It is ok. I just meant I haven't gotten my first paycheck since I started the new job. But being out of work for 2 months sucked up my savings and such. I was also dealing with a work related injury that put me out of work as well.
Honestly I had to read the post twice to realise you were selling it on here. As for Renderosity I have been buying less and less from them just because they haven't been putting anything out I want. I buy less this month than any other for another reason . I am not a big fan of Halloween themed products that dominate the month. I am also buying more from Daz because of the product addon like what you and your sister bring to the table.
And truthfully this probably would be a good place to test the waters and such. At least you know for the most part , you will honest critiques of the products from your customers instead of one based on whether it will make them money like Daz and Rendo.
