Description
Updated with some settings from the forum! Still not ideal, but getting better.More fiddling with skin settings. I'm still not there yet, but progress is being made. This guy didn't have the artifacts I had with Taric, and I'm still not sure what was going on there.

I've found that tweaking the glossy coat, translucency colors, physically correct IOR (for human epidermis and any material you can find one for) and SSS to be the most beneficial with Iray, especially when converting older skins to the newer 'chassis'. I make a lot of my own characters too, but there's a few that work equally well with Iray. Just don't use those base shaders for G2's characters. Worst pack-in product ever, which is funny as the metals and uber bases for all the other materials are fairly decent with tweaks.

Agreed. I don't agree that they're the worst, but they have some shortcomings. DAZ's in-house artists are still learning settings with the rest of us, I'm sure.

Okay, worst was a bit finite, but those map settings... Elephant skin much?

Hi, Sickleyield. Is this a Iray skin texture you are creating from scratch? It looks nice. I like the overall color, but in particular the lips, the nipples and the look of the hands. I'm not into Iray for the moment but I'm thinking about including Iray materials in my next product (mostly metal, wood and plastic). No doubt I'll have to follow all your tutorials to learn something about it! Congratulations. Can't wait to see the final result.

Nope! It's this: www.daz3d.com/fw-sebastian-hd
All of my Iray tests are with existing skins, because I'm developing a product to help adapt and update existing textures. I know that there are a lot of purists on the forums saying "you have to make everything from scratch for the unbiased engine," but that's not a realistic goal for most of our customers, so I'm going to find ways to enable using existing content as much as possible (a goal that has served me well with past adaptive products).

That's fine and helpful. I have many great skin textures I would like to continue using with the new engine and a product that helps people to do so surely will be a success.

Tweak the SubD, I had that as well.
Oh nevermind, Sickle just mentioned that too.

Did you try changing the SubD to Soft Angles And Corners? That's what worked for me, finally.

Figuring out artefacts can be a pain, I've seen them turn up apparently at random. Of course, most often it's the angle you're viewing that part at or the angle & level of the lighting.
Looking good though. I haven't been doing much of anything wit 4.8 and iray yet - no point with my "Team Red" gear.

It takes some learning for someone used to 3Delight in DS, as I was! I'd never really used a PBR/unbiased setup before.

They're a mix of a couple of HD sets. SubD is set to 2.
