Description This is another cover comp for a possible anthology series I want to do with some of my short horror stories. I have been working on it on and off between projects and hope to get a few issues out tihs year.

I really want to make this feel like a horror series from the 70's/80's. This would be issue 2 featuring a story based off my "Pond Scum" piece.

And would that also be the sawmill story from the Sasquatch book?

YEa, that is the same one. I'd love to print it up again in this series.

I don't know what's funnier...the clueless heroine or the fly hat she's got. Looks like a devotee of the sport; otherwise, she wouldn't be caught dead wearing it!

Ha! Yea, I thought that would be funny to draw. That she is so into this kind of sport.

Hey, if I come up with a cool idea (one you find cool) do you draw it? Or are you backlogged?

I love ding that kind of stuff but I rarely have time for it now. I try to limit anything like that to when I have a journal contest. I think I am due for one soon though.

It never hurts to make a suggestion though.

Awesome! I'd love to see this happen, there have been a few attempts at a new "Tales of the Crypt" styled book recently and they usually never interest me... mostly because of the art.

sideshowmonkey In reply to cyclonaut [2008-03-26 18:23:24 +0000 UTC]

Yea, the new "Tales from the Crypt" really bugs me. I haven't found an issue to pick up yet, so I'll give it a fair shot, but from what I've read about the stories it doesn't interest me. I don't think TFTC was meant to have stories about cell phones, action figures and other "modernized" stories. I want to see zombies and werewolves.

cyclonaut In reply to sideshowmonkey [2008-03-26 20:20:46 +0000 UTC]

haha. I had not even heard the stories were modernized!

Lame.

You did a good job of making it look retro, and the monster is awesome. The only thing is that most 1970s horror mags used a very realistic style while the one on this cover is more cartoony. Don't get me wrong, I love cartoons, but if you want to get that "retro" look you should probably go for more realism.

sideshowmonkey In reply to AshLoomis [2008-03-26 18:18:39 +0000 UTC]

Yea, I thought about doing that but I'm not going for that "actual" 70's feel. Just trying to give my own style that 70's presentation so people know what vibe I'm going for if they see the comic on the shelves. Thanks for the help though.

HA! It is an actual story I did for an anthology from Viper Comics last year about Sasquatch. So I'm sure you can tell it is about Sasquatch in a sawmill. Good times.
