Description Just another quick little monster and the maiden pic. I wanted to play with the color a little to give it that meaty, raw skin kind of look on the fish man as well as a sunset kind of feel on the whole piece. Not much more to say, just a fun little experiment.

i love her untroubled look and his hesitating body pose. his face is abit too overloaded and his eyes lack emotion. i thought the red background came from a lava fire or something. all in all very nice pic.

sideshowmonkey In reply to nautik [2006-02-14 10:02:35 +0000 UTC]

I didn't want any emotion in his eyes kind of like a fish. Just the cold hollow eyes that look like they are staring out into space. The pic is just a fun doodle while I was at work.

Ha ha! Thanks. I spent a short time drawing it and then a longer time coloring it instead of doing a real illustration. Sometime's it is just fun to jump into a goofy pic and do that but I always feel guilty later.

its cool how the style of yours changes a bit when comparing the water and the monster/girl on each other, while the details on the monster and the girl are mostly done with lines, the seas one has been made with colors.

sideshowmonkey In reply to Meitti [2006-02-14 09:57:41 +0000 UTC]

YEa, I struggle with the water stuff, still trying to figure out the technique for that. It's been more succesful in other pics but it was still fun to color.

IntelKnight [2006-02-14 05:15:31 +0000 UTC]

cool. although couple of things seem kinda unrealistic:
1. girl does not hear the splash, or feel the waves is generates
If would make more sense for the moster to approach rise slowly from the water (kinda like crocodiles)
2. I haven't ever met a woman who would fish, especially all by herself and having to stand in the dirty pond.
no clue how to fix this one. may make her pick up a shell or something

Those are the most boring, un-fun responses to such a fun illustration that I've ever heard in my entire life.

IntelKnight In reply to BryanBaugh [2006-02-15 06:19:10 +0000 UTC]

I apologize - that was a failed attempt at humor. Kinda trying to say that presence of a sentient mutated human-fish hybrid seems a slightly deeper breach of realism than irregularities in fishing technique.

BryanBaugh In reply to IntelKnight [2006-02-15 07:56:16 +0000 UTC]

OK, I get it!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

sideshowmonkey In reply to IntelKnight [2006-02-14 10:00:28 +0000 UTC]

Yea, I wasn't really going for realism, it was more of an experiment. I was tired of drawing the girls in that semi-surprised state so I decided to kind of make her look dumb and I thought about putting waders on her but then that would cover her up more and I wanted to draw her torso. Maybe I could of put her in a bikini or something but the fishing thing just seemed silly to me.

For some reason silly always wins when I 'm trying to decide on what to draw.

Silly rocks. Calling for "realism" was a (lame) joke. Kinda trying to say that presence of a sentient mutated human-fish hybrid seems a slightly deeper breach of realism than irregularities in fishing technique.

I've done enough fishing in my life to know that Velveeta cheese and canned corn are just as good to use for bait as worms. I'm also not bothered that she doesn't notice the splashing behind her because... look at those eyes of hers. I think she just might be as dumb as a box of rocks. Shes not even wearing waders.

Look up the Dobson Fly Larva.
We used to find 'em under rocks and use them for bass fishing bait.
Nasty little suckers!
