This was for my 20,000th page view contest which was won byThe-amazing-Todd wrote:
"I'm a huge Norse freak, love all things viking. Thus how about A viking, battle worn, missing an eye, teeth (whatever, have at it) battling a sea monster. And to retain the Kong thing, the viking can be ripping the jaws of the monster like Kong to the T-rex."
So this was the pic I came up with. I decided not to have him pulling the jaws apart like King Kong did to the T-Rex because every angle I tried to use looked awkward. So I hope this works out ok.
Congrats again, I hope you like how it came out.

He was mentioning King Kong earlier and we were just throwing that idea around, but you're right, the size thing was a big issue so that is kind of why I scrapped it.

I gotta say I think I stayed up on the last couple pics a little too late. I've been getting about 3-5 hours sleep a night and now I'm feeling it. I'll probably have to take a day or two just to hibernate. Man, I'm getting old.

This is the fuckin' shit!!! The sea creature turned out gloriously, and the viking is wicked. I love the destroyed viking ship also. This is a fantastic piece, especially because you got it done so quickly.

Word. Hey, how do you keep all of your line work? When I color in PS, I lose alot of detail. I also don't really work in layers. Your stuff always has the line work.

I usually work in layers. I just paint on a layer and then put my line work on top of that and either delete all the white or add a multiply attribute to it, depending on what the image is and how its used.
There are lots of good tutorials out there for comic book coloring. Those are the best place to start in finding new ways to color stuff. The great thing about photoshop is that there is no one way to do things.
