So a few things to clear up: This isn't a very technical tutorial. It's not here to showcase how I do everything step by step (because that would take far too much work for my lazy ass) but more to show what Photoshop enables me to do and the tools that it gives you. It's supposed to be more a motivation for any aspiring G-Mod artists out there to get themselves a similiar tool and just test things out with it.

After all, that's how I did it. Got the software, played around a little, suddenly three years passed and now I'm here.
