Description So I was bored and decided to make another little tutorial after seeing a certain "problem" arise with standpose.
Again, not very technical but more a nudge to lead everyone who wants to try it into the right direction.

Also yes, I might not mention it in the pic but I'll be honest with you guys: a big part of it is also experience, just being able to pose characters naturally from the beginning, knowing how to wrangle ragdolls and having the patience to carefully position each and everyone one of them. But the good thing is that it's not a privilege. You have the time? You have the chance!

So go out there and start to pose and god forbid DO NOT USE THE STANDPOSE!

I even found this link here steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles… , the picture points out how hard or stressful it seems for the uploader to work with the physgun.
I'm not trying to sound like a pro or something, but tbh I never knew people had problems with the physgun, neither did I know that the majority of gmodders use the standpose tool

To be honest, seeing this and some of the other situations makes me understand those purists that say "Physgun and nothing else!". I mean, in the picture I did it for comedic value (the whole tutorial is overly cynical) but I guess I'll continue beeing 'barbaric' if it means I can create more quality pictures

I feel you, man. Whereas standpose might come handy in some situations, people shouldn't overuse it.
I sometimes see people using standpose in such a ridiculously obvious way when creating scenes where
they just apply the standpose tool on a TF2 character and just facepose the face and move the arms a little bit, which is more than displeasing my poor eyes.
Also, I gotta hate it when people use the standpose tool and don't even bother to unfreeze the scout's dogtags, like this

I've recently stopped using the stand gimmick for everything but when the pose has the model in question ACTUALLY standing.

You know what is also Silly and Unnatural? The HL2 texture in the TF2 Universe in panel 3..

ah yeah, the good ol' map-bugs with TF2 maps. I don't really use them that much to concern myself with this problem but I assure you that the picture gets it's point across, "silly and unnatural" HL-2 textures or not

Some models refuse to work with ragdoll mover, since apparently pros refuse to use anything other than the Physgun

Doesn't helps that its outdated as fuck

Interesting to hear, for me the Physgun has always been the best option and most people that I know on the Facepunch Forums say the same.
My general opinion is that you don't need anything more then the Physgun to make good results (example: Myself and the others on Facepunch) BUT if you're comfortable with rag-mover or the advanced bone tool and can create some good stuff with it, go right ahead

Some purists might get mad at you but that's about it

Well the topic of this picture was never really the tools somebody uses to pose but more the way they pose and how much work goes into it, so I think this isn't really the right place to have a disscusion regarding either rag-mover or the advanced bone tool (especially because the only thing I can add regarding those two tools is: I've never used them and I don't need them)

So if it helps, yeah I don't have a problem with that, I wasn't trying to disown or insult either tool or discredit the people that make pictures using them

And regarding which one creates "better" results I have to tell you that, that is entirely subjective. It's like saying all results made with a brush are better than those made with pencils. It's not important which tools are used but who wields them.
