"Bodies lined the streets... the savages... what we were told were the 'Aztecs'; they flayed the man. Alive. Disgusted we shot them down. We tried to aid the flayed man, but he was dead."Such savagery! But truly dark part had yet to happen... as we buried their heathen bodies, the flayed man arose. He looked at us and spoke a single phrase...
"'Xipe Totec.'
"Then clawed and flayed one of men who was horse back, with a single flick of his hand. Moment after moment, man after man exploded in a mess of skin and flesh... And the savages each arose again, screaming at us.

Thats awesome. I really like that way of coloring, it gives the piece a rough touch. The skinless-effect is so well drawn. Great knowledge of muscles.

Well thank you for the comment! I want to get across the idea of some undead skinless thing created by Aztec rituals. Just sorta hit me in the head one day.

I really like this piece....there's something about the face that keeps me staring at it. It's a bit surreal with the proportions (flattened a bit), and I think that was on purpose...not sure. Anyway...I like it!

Its hard for it not to be flat, as I use lines overly in my work- but I like the flatness feel. Makes it look like a illustration in a old book or something. Surreal proportions? How so?

I drew the lines on some paper. I scanned it in, then I colored it using Photoshop. I added the texture and tweaked it to give it some depth.

Thanks for the comment. I had to invent the concept of a Aztec undead, something I haven't been able to really find in what we know of their mythology. Xipe Totec is the closest thing: a fertility god that wears flayed skin. So I based it on him.
