Description My first #inktober offering: Cutter Kinseeker, chief of the Wolfriders. I was htinking the other day that Elfquest was really the first American comic I ever read - at the time, I didn't even realise it was American... I read it in a Dutch translation and borrowed the comics from the library.

Looking back, it has had a huge influence on me. Before Elfquest, I had never read a comic in which each book was not a separate adventure. The first one I borrowed must have been one with a cover that pleased me - and when I started reading, I discovered to my surprise that I had to go back to the library and find number 1 if I wanted to follow the story... And what a story it was! I adored it; I don't know how many times I have read the whole thing. And it still stand up...

Two weeks ago, I bought the Dark Horse omnibuses at a convention - that gorgeous black and white art of Wendy Pini's is still a delight. I find it very frustrating that after the Grand Quest she left the inking job to someone else, because rah those inks! Of course it got worse when she gave her elves into the hands of other artists. I used to growl that even I could draw better - so this is me making good on my boast, in a way . I drew Cutter from memory (I used no reference, but I AM rereading Elfquest as we speak), and I cheated for the wolf, because I am just not very good at drawing animals .

Cutter and Elfquest are (c) Richard and Wendy Pini.

Pentel brush pen in Moleskine sketchbook (A5).
