Wow. That's so awesome!! I knew about the contest but didn't even think about that when I saw the deviation. It's beautiful, I love the transparency of the hair in particular, and the light contrast. My eyes kept being drawn to the bird because it's so bright and then going back to the mermaid because she's nicely centered and just really pretty.
