Description WARNING: SPOILERS!

This is my best guess at the layout of locations in the amazing long-running fanfic Fallout: Equestria based on discussions with the author. It's not 'canon', per se; other Fallout: Equestria stories may or may not use the same map. But this should reflect what Kkat had in mind as she wrote.

Each grid square represents roughly a day's travel on foot across easy terrain. I estimated that the Sky Bandit makes triple that speed in good weather.

Dude, this is awesome! I've been writing a fanfic and I really needed a ref map. This is the best one I've seen. And the distances make sense.

Your welcome. This couldn't have been easy. Map making is very hard.

Do you mind if I link to this in my fanfic? I'm using it as a joke to lampshade the difference between Kkat's idea and the new canon one.

SilentCarto In reply to ClickClacktheBrony [2012-12-25 03:12:12 +0000 UTC]

That is to say, I don't mind, thought it's always been explicitly her headcanon and not anything remotely official or even supported by the show.

I guess?

Well.
The new map of Equestria renders this rather moot, doesn't it?

SilentCarto In reply to hdover [2012-08-22 12:03:15 +0000 UTC]

Nah. This map never fit my headcanon anyway, but it's the map the story uses.

Negative. No need to ruin what has already been set in stone.
Don't force in the canon if it doesn't broke.
The saying "don't fix what isn't broken" applies rather nicely here.

So no, it doesn't lad.

I think your distances are a bit high. By this map, it would take about 1.5 days to get from Ponyville to Canterlot in the Sky Bandit, and probably longer via train, since it needs to navigate the steep terrain. But we know that the trip via the Friendship Express takes only about 12-16 hours. Did Kkat give you any feedback on this map?

Also, and totally unrelated, how do you know Kkat's a "she?"

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SilentCarto In reply to temporos [2012-07-11 12:04:49 +0000 UTC]

Yes, this is based on Kkat's descriptions. And the distance is highly flexible, even in the show -- it's only a few hours by carriage in The Best Night Ever, and a few minutes by pegasus chariot in Swarm of the Century. I felt it was more important to put a comfortable separation between the two than to match any particular episode's view of the distance.
And I "know" she's a she because because she says so.

Will this ever be updated to show Neighvarro? I'm curious as to where the SPP central control facility is.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

temporos In reply to dividebyichi [2012-07-11 04:46:21 +0000 UTC]

Neighvarro is an Enclave settlement. We know roughly where it is during the battle there, but it can be moved (it's on a cloud), so it can't be accurately placed on any map. Look how Cloudsdale has been moved multiple times in canon. It seems to almost orbit Ponyville.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

SilentCarto In reply to dividebyichi [2012-02-21 04:44:54 +0000 UTC]

Unfortunately not. Its location is never specified in any way. All we know is that it's a few hours from Spike's cave by dragonback. Given the scenery they flew by on the way there, it's over a mountain range -- probably the same one Spike's cave is in, but much farther south along the range.

Tytan357 In reply to SilentCarto [2012-06-06 05:24:42 +0000 UTC]

I seem to recall a chapter in FOE where Rainbow Dash was talking to Rarity about the SPP and she pointed out where the control center was, although she pointed out that you would need a telescope to see it.

I believe the memory took place in Old Olneigh, I'm pretty sure that's where Littlepip was when she saw it. And since the SPP control center is in the middle of Neighvarro it could make a good reference point, if at least to make a guess.

Does that help?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SilentCarto In reply to Tytan357 [2012-06-06 11:35:36 +0000 UTC]

Well, she said it was about 100 miles away from Old Olneigh, which would require a distance scale I don't have, along the line from the hospital to the water tower, whose locations we don't know. *shrug* Sorry, but it's just not enough information, and since it's high in the sky, the site is effectively off the map.

Anyway, that was its construction site, not its final location. They probably moved it around after closing the sky to foil any missiles the zebras aimed blind.

Tytan357 In reply to SilentCarto [2012-06-06 15:01:48 +0000 UTC]

For some reason I never pictured it being in the sky, and I don't know why.

(Dear god that's almost catchy!)

How about the key and labeling the zebra territory?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SilentCarto In reply to Tytan357 [2012-06-08 00:35:14 +0000 UTC]

Zebra territory is far to the west. This is only the central valley of Equestria; there's another mountain range off the left side of the map, which includes Dragon Cave and probably Neighvarro. Beyond that is the badlands where Littlehorn was built, Shattered Hoof Ridge and the tower Homage took down, and finally the isthmus that leads West to Zebrica.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

temporos In reply to SilentCarto [2012-07-11 04:55:18 +0000 UTC]

Are you sure about that? I interpreted the Zebra lands as being far to the Southeast of Canterlot. And I'm fairly certain that Appleloosa is to the west of Ponyville, in the opposite direction of Canterlot. Dodge Junction is the "old west" town that's south of Canterlot and east of Ponyville.

Of course, this takes into account Season 2 canon, which royally f5ck3d up all Season 1's geography. So, who knows anymore?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SilentCarto In reply to temporos [2012-07-11 12:08:40 +0000 UTC]

This is the word of Kkat. I personally prefer to think of Zebrica being somewhere to the south and Appleoosa in the west -- and indeed, this map reflected that before Kkat gave me her input. But this is what she had in mind when she wrote it, so this is as official as the map gets.

DoctorVaider [2012-02-02 05:33:33 +0000 UTC]

So where is Hoofington in comparison then?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SilentCarto In reply to DoctorVaider [2012-02-02 12:47:54 +0000 UTC]

That is a very complicated question. In short, the Hoofington of PH can't exist on this map; it doesn't fit without spatial warps.

Now, Hoofington does get some offhand mentions in FOE; if I had to put it somewhere, it would be west beyond the forest, in the direction of Zebrica.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

galvantulabause In reply to SilentCarto [2012-06-21 15:29:40 +0000 UTC]

Isn't hoofington area in the North East, slightly right of canterlot behind the mountain range?

It could make sense seeing as i believe it is mentioned early on that canterlot was visible from the area around stockyard and seeing how areas such as the gravel pit and the slaver mine fit thematically on the mountain range.

This would mean that hoofington faces a north sea whilst manehattan a south sea. I can't remember reading that manehattan was visible from hoofington, However there is mention of a road between the two which could be a road leading from hoofington snaking around the mountain range into old appleloosa or straight to manehattan possibly explaining the large amount of raiders and slavers along the area.

And it allows for Zebrica and Dragon cave still reamining on the far western side

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SilentCarto In reply to galvantulabause [2012-06-21 23:10:35 +0000 UTC]

Nope.
Well, I mean, yes, but Manehattan is supposed to be relatively nearby, across the mountains via the Boneyard. And Spike's cave, too. PH just generally doesn't agree with Kkat's layout at all, and Somber acknowledges that.

Only within the context of FOE, though. I'm pretty sure that Appleoosa should be in the west, but Kkat said otherwise.

Woah...

Why do I say that?
This is very similar to how I mentally arranged the places... but flipped left-to-right. Maybe not completely, but yeah, I imagined the top half flipped from this.

Still, props to you for this map! It looks great, and is very accurate to the story, at least as far as I can tell.

SilentCarto In reply to Ordinaryperson2 [2012-01-18 00:58:04 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!
Canterlot is one of the few places whose direction we know for sure -- Lauren Faust stated it was northeast of Ponyville and the Everfree is west.

Ordinaryperson2 In reply to SilentCarto [2012-01-18 03:30:00 +0000 UTC]

Oh, interesting. I always imagined it to the East, and Appleoosa (new and old) to the west.

SilentCarto In reply to Ordinaryperson2 [2012-01-18 03:47:37 +0000 UTC]

Appleoosa isn't stated, but I figure it's somewhere out to the west, too. Take this map with a grain of salt as far as actual MLP canon goes.

SilentCarto In reply to CG-Sphinx [2012-01-14 05:45:22 +0000 UTC]

Not really... if you recall, the Sky Bandit was approaching the Canterlot mountains when the party saved the young zebras going to Glyphmark, and Glyphmark was where they headed to recover from the injuries sustained in Canterlot. It's pretty close by.

I want to say to the west but I'm not sure.

It's never been stated, and knowing Kkat, never will.
Project Horizons says it's east.
My personal headcanon says south.
