Description
A young quoll doing a bit of hiking to explore the outback near Uluru/Ayers Rock. Not really a walkabout in a traditional sense, but trekking can certainly be a means of finding yourself. Hiking in Australia is pretty high on my list things I want to experience someday.Quolls are some seriously adorable critters! The background took some time, but I think I'm starting to like painting them as well (even with all those bushes, eek)
This is my submission for Further Confusion 2011's conbook, with their theme Southern Crossings. It will also be for auction in the art show there =3

Man, I swear I looked for this one for like an HOUR the other day. I remembered seeing it a few years ago, and wanted to find it again, but kept looking for "kangaroo rat", because that's how I remembered it. Glad I found it again!

What did you make this with? Water colour and coloured pencils?

Almost completely with watercolor paint and gouache, though there is a bit of colored pencil for the texture on the rocks

Alice Springs is a very beautiful place indeed. The sunrise and sunsets are breathtaking to see and it is so dark out there at nighttime you’ll see more stars than ever. The only place you could match this is about 30-50 miles out in the sea or ocean, takes a bit of awhile to get there from Sydney. I do recommend that you check out Queensland as well up north. The forest landscapes are worth the trip.
