Description

Waaaaay into Howl’s Moving Castle again of late, wow I love this movie. I really need to read the book - T, I didn’t even know there WAS a book until most of those pics you sent me turned out to be book fanart. I was all, ‘Book? What book? Oh. … I NEED IT GIVE IT TO ME!’ I just… *clenches fist* I just have a lot of feels about this group of self-adopted lovable idiots, is all.

It’s been raining the last few days and I was inspired to do something rain-related, hence this. And, yes, I took the opportunity offered to me with both hands: so enjoy your wet-t-shirt-contest-participant!Howl. Because I can. Shush. I LOVE the way they animate this skinny glorious bastard! Also the hair… well, I figure a vain little bugger like Howl never really keeps one colour on for very long. *shrugs* Fight me.

There’s just something about the animation in this film that I can't quite put my finger on that I love. I mean, sure, I love Disney, don’t get me wrong, they and Ghibli are so vastly different in their approaches to the animated medium and yet despite being so different, both of their film lines are beautiful.

I think it has something to do with how they approach depicting reality. Disney seems to look at how things move and work and think, “Yeah, well, we’re not going to do it quite like that; we’re going to cut the gawky, unbeautiful bits out, and keep and emphasise the pretty bits, yes” whilst Ghibli looks at the same stuff and goes, “That. Exactly like that”. And the beauty follows! It’s incredible, but true. Wish I could describe it better…
