Description
Love these parrots, they are unfortunately endangered due mostly to the pet trade, but at least zoos are making efforts to help them. Guys parrots like these are not really good pets, macaws take a LOT of care and work, and are too intelligent to be left in a cage all day. Please, let's keep these beautiful birds in the WILD.~*~photographed @ Brevard Zoo, FL
Please ask first and if I give permission you must give proper credit by providing a link to the original photo. Thank you!
And howabout a series of blue and gold and green-winged macaws?-

I can see the purity in its eyes! <3
Im totally agree about you say, I really don't know why people wants to have this magnificent creatures as a pets. Cats and Dogs, are pets, but birds needs to be in freedom!

Thank you very much! I'm glad you agree, too many of these birds end up in cages, it's horrible for them.

Thank you so much. I agree about the speech. It isn't just words learned, they put them together in meaningful ways. I remember reading about Alex and how a young African Grey was being worked with in the same room and when he was getting a word wrong, Alex spoke up and admonished the younger one by saying "Speak clearly!" or something to that effect. He was clearly chastising him about not getting it correct. We have chickens and came to be amazed at just how bright they are. We were always led to believe they weren't the sharpest tools in the shed. They certainly aren't on the par of parrots and other birds, but neither are they mindless. Each also has VERY distinctive personalities. We have become so attached we don't make very good egg farmers. When ours stop or slow down laying, they just live the good life, getting attention, fresh fruit and even walks with us. No stew pot for them. Right now we have a chicken hawk trying to take them out so unfortunately until we can afford to cover their large run, they have to be in the basement and can only go outside on a leash. You should see the looks we get. My mother thinks we are nuts. LOL
I will definitely let you know when the pic is done. A heads up, I work oh so slow these days, having a host of health problems, but I will definitely put this on the top of the list. The colors are just too tempting If you like it I can even send a high res. file for you to make a print. Thanks again and I will be in touch as soon as possible.

Ha ha, your story about the chickens made me laugh. I bet there's a lot we don't understand about animals, or I should say realize about animals, I don't really believe what people say anymore. I go by my own research and experience!
Anyway no prob, take all the time you need. A print would be awesome, thank you.

I agree with you about the pet thing. I worked as a licensed tech and saw many that were just sooooo stressed from having to live the way they did. They are so smart it just isn't fair. Have you heard about Alex the African Grey National Geographic did a piece on. He has since passed but he was an example of the incredible intelligence of parrots on general. I would love to do something with this, either color pencil or oil. Those intense colors are just so tempting and the pic was done so nicely. I would happily give credit, credit and more credit. I always work to promote those whose pics I am given special permission to use.

Hi! I'm glad you agree. I have always wanted a parrot like this, but I'm glad I never got one. As I got older I learned how these birds suffer in captivity, a lot of time you see them with plucked feathers or repetitive behaviours, just like people do when they are mentally stressed. While these birds are gorgeous and intelligent, I would rather take photos of them in the wild or properly cared for in zoos (who seem to often have them for breeding purposes or conservation which I think is OK) and just let them fly free. Nothing saddens me more than to see a bird with clipped wings...
Yes I saw that PBS special about Alex. What an incredible bird. He could count to four if I remember correctly, and recognize colors and shapes. I have no doubt some of these birds can speak in context if given enough time and learning. They are amazing. In fact I know I read stories of this budgie who could talk like that, it was pretty jaw-dropping.
Sure go right ahead! Just remember to link me once you finish the work so I can see it I always fave drawn art of my photos

I as an owner of a B&G agree. These birds should have been left in the wild There are too many people who get them saying "Oh it talks!" then they realize how much work they are! And they are VERY loud! Their vet care can be very high, as well as the cost of food. So many factors go into buying big birds like this.

Good point about the loudness. I had a cockatiel once who could drive me nuts with her shrieking and calling for me every time I left the room. I loved that bird but I have not gotten another parrot since.
