Description
She had walked these muddy banks many times before, but this time she stepped into a curious bowl-shaped depression that had formed along the river banks. She felt the clay beneath her give way instantly, and the bowl seemed to somehow deepen, even as her legs sank deep beneath the suddenly quick surface. Mud oozed down the sides of the pit towards her, and a powerful suction yanked her down deeper. She was stuck, sinking and practically immobilized, at the center of a slowly swirling quicksand whirlpool!Related content

Now to come up with a way to rationalize it scientifically.
Actually, I've seen several TV / cartoon scenes where characters sink into quicksand and fall THROUGH IT, into a cavern below. That is one plausible situation in which you might see this..

I believe the anime movie Nausicaa has such a scene that I happened to see when I was fairly young.

once again, another good idea of quicksand stories is born.
quicksand whirlpool I have not seen for a long time, not since I read the story Bogworld back years ago that did have a whirlpool quicksand scene,
I have seen some antlion quicksand moments. Most of them coming from Japanese anime shows.

That's true, antlion scenes often look a lot like this. But who wants that harsh, abrasive dry sand?
(no offense to dry-sand fans !! )
I think the Japanese shows have more antlion scenes than quicksand scenes, which is weird, and a shame.

It may be a good concept, but I would not be so fast to jump in there. This trap is extra dangerous!

If you are a member of Starfleet, that would be breaking the Prime Directive. Otherwise, yes

Starfleet is those people in Star Trek who believe it's wrong to interfere or change anything on the planets they discover.
