Yeah, I sometimes try to get logical about MLP, too, but then I usually catch myself thinking something like "dude, they're magical winged and horned speaking horses, just deal with it..."
Anyway, answering lordsjaak's fair question - they both hurt their wings when they crashed in the first episode, so they can't fly, not yet.
