Behold, my first and only tattoo, fresh upon my left thigh. The design is by ; the tattoo artist added shading as I requested. Trust me when I say the photo doesn't do it justice-- I have a lot to learn about taking pictures, and it's a pretty difficult angle to catch on your own body.

Why a gargoyle? For many years, I've been captivated by the concept of protectors, particularly those charged with guarding people who cannot or will not understand or appreciate them. Given that the original purpose of the gargoyle was to keep evil spirits away from churches, I see it as the purest symbol of the selfless guardian. (Okay, okay, the original purpose was waterspouts. Let's not split hairs.) There is nothing I would rather have printed on my body than a reminder to live by the code of sacrificial love.
