Stupid title...I know that the star is one of the minor things in this pic but...For a competition. This took me forever >.< But the first prize is a trip to an animation studio in JAPAN O_O!! It's worth all I've got.
I know, his (it's a GUY OKAY!) shoulder looks off and the whole pic is very messy and the lineart sucks.....but I'm too tired to bother anymore T_T Wants to wins though >.<
Picture inspired by the colour brown. I had fun colouring all the gears and a headache deciding on the right BG. I had clouds at first but it made the picture too crowded so I scraped it.
Time spent: way too long
Lineart: sakura micron 005, copic sketchmarker 05
Colouring: photoshop7
Colour scheme: brown, green, purple, yello

The competition was held last year actually. It's called ' The Rising Star of Manga'. Corny, yes. It's organizedby ROGUE magazine and the Inoue school of art.
But if they hold it again this year, be sure to join! The experience is really REALLY worth it. (although the getting round to going to Japan was a really tedious process)

The lineart should have been smaller, thinner, you know? Otherwise, it's a beautiful piece, very pretty. I like his design a lot. Nice colouring, too. The overall effect is just really adorable. It deserves a

Let me give you a tip: when working on a sketch, resize it to 250% (or more), and use a 5px or so to do the lineart. Colour it still big and when you're finished, resize it. You'll see that, for example, little mistakes won't be visible and the lineart will look much more elegant.

I really love the background to the picture. It's kind of difficult to get it working without really distracting you from the main part of the picture. Thus is why I hate drawing backgrounds.
