I'm reading your comments above.....so what did you use as the base reference for your wolf work then?Β A book or someone's photos?

I used many different references to piece this artwork together. Mostly from books. I looked at a lot of images of wolves interacting from both the web and books to help understand how the interact with each other. Along with videos. I'd love to see it in person and take my own photos for reference, which I plan to do in the future.
You have some very nice photos in your gallery.

Thanks!Β I've spent a lot of time in with the wolves getting those photos! Β But you are right; looking at the books and all is good but nothing beats seeing them in person and taking your own photos.Β They are something!Β I wish I could express to you what it means to be in their presence.
I'm honored that you've looked at my gallery and at my wolves.Β

I'd love to go to wolf park. Perhaps someday I will. Or, I might just go to a place closer to me since I'm in California.

Yeah, that would be a trip for you!Β I want desperately to come back to CA because there's a place where you can go in with a meerkat mob.Β That's another one of my dreams!Β I adore those little guys!

Wow, that's incredible! Great job on the eyes and mouths especially. What did you use to draw this?

I absolutely love this! Instant fav! it just looks like you had no trouble and every first line was your last line. Any tips on how I could get better?

Thanks!
The first general tip I have is persistence and practice (all us artist need this... and if you do you will see improvements :3)
Also, tracing a photo of an animal you like and then going over those lines again at least once helps a lot. (well, only helpful for outline of key features... not really for details) Like writing, the more you do it the better you get.
Now, copying a photo exactly isn't usually the best way since photos flatten everything which then really show in a drawing. But for practice, and learning how to draw it... getting a feel for it, can be very helpful.
Hope this helps

that does help. so I have this fox drawing I printed, then outlined the ouside. I gave it a completely different fur style, it was like your wolves, now it's kinda a lineart. does that count?

for practice, it does.

so if I put it into an art program and go over the pencil marks, does that count as a lineart?
π: 0 β©: 1
silvercrossfox In reply to Kalik-ing-Away [2010-11-11 21:36:43 +0000 UTC]
it doesn't need to go into an art program to make lineart... people often do since it can create cleaner lines... (as far as I'm aware lineart is the final version of the artwork (minus any coloring)... so it can be done with pen, pencil or digital. whichever you prefer.
but, if you did copy another persons artwork... you should ask them before posting it online if it is okay... and that you are simply practicing. Some people do not like it when someone copies...

I never actually copied the work, I used it as a bisic outline. then changed it up, a lot. so the only thing the same is the pose.

It really shows in a lot of your artwork that you really take the time and effort to ensure the emotions and anatomy are correct.
