Description I wanted to show you guys how beautiful their coats were. All of them were in wonderful condition with smooth coats, filled out bodies, and bright eyes. Their leg barring was stunning! I still can't believe we were lucky enough to get this close.

Please do not use. This is NOT free stock.

That is the most amazing form of this colouration I've ever seen.
You're so lucky to have come across this small herd, I would have been absolutley off my nut internally squeeling from delight at such an awesome expedition. Good on you for seeing them, stopping AND HAVING YOUR CAMERA HANDY!

Holey, bajeezus. This is insanely lucky of you.

Did you get any other snaps of them?

I was so ecstatic to see them this close. It was one of the most incredible experiences of my life And these guys were insanely beautiful. I would have actually squealed if I knew it wouldn't scare them off. And afterward I couldn't stop talking about them

I did get a few more shots, but they weren't this good I may upload some more at some point though.

**gimme hands** Lookit that face! Such a pretty mare.

I can't wait to move to Montana and take care of one of these herds. How can anyone say that mustangs are vermin!

I don't know either. The one problem though is that they all stay in one relative location because that's where the best water is, and they're starting to overgraze that area. There is so much grass on the range, so I really doubt that they'll ever be able to overgraze it to the point where they're all starving. And they're all so healthy! None of them looked at all underweight. And their feet looked awesome. No cracking or chipping. I love how hardy these guys are

My uncle and I made plans for next summer to take some ATVs out in the hills and see if we can find Cloud and his band Very excited for that!

Last I heard, they were debating about either euthanizing the herd or relocating them...hopefully, due to the MASSIVE outcry about them destroying the horses, I sincerely doubt that they'd go for that option again. The BLM is trying to relocate herds across the US to prevent them from becoming the victims of a cattle rancher's anger or from starving, like the descendants of the horses Marguerite Henry wrote about in Mustang: Wild Spirit of the West. Personally, I don't think they've got a lot to worry about in Montana in terms of overgrazing...but out here? Oh, it's bad. It's primarily desert and what little grazing that's available out here is guarded heavily.

Mustangs take care of themselves. They never have to worry about having to have their feet shod or trimmed because it wears off as it grows...and they've got those rock-crusher feet that is the bane of any farrier's existence! My farrier HATED trimming my mustangs' feet.

Haha! That's part of why I want to adopt a mustang someday--good feet!

There's also talk in Montana about injecting some of the mares to make them sterile. I'm really not a fan of that idea because I worry that it will mess up the natural cycle or something. I don't know--I really just don't like the idea of interference with an animal that has thrived so well on their own for so long. But a lot of ranchers would love to have that land.

Montana does get plenty of rain, and the runoff from the snow in the winter helps too. But I know the main problems are in California and Nevada where it is mostly desert. As hardy as they are, I'm sure large numbers wouldn't help. Where might those herds be relocated to?

I loved that book when I was younger--loved all of her books, actually.
