Woooo, SHREDD. I don't know how this one slipped past me, but now I see it!
I'm curious how you go about shading. I like how you use a harder brush rather than a softer one, so you can actually see your paint strokes instead of it being all smooth and pillowy. Your method works better for him... but, do you use Dodge/Burn, do you hand pick darker colors, or do you paint on a layer above with Black and White set to various levels of opacity? I'm currently in to the latter method... you never have to worry about picking any other colors! And, if you want to change a color scheme it's way easy.
I'm agreeing with the other guy, as well. Upping the contrast might give him a more metallic look.

Sup Hock, long time no see! Dodging and Burning for me is a BIG no no. I hand pick my colors because I don't like them to just be brighter or darker versions of the same color. Darks are cooler and lights are warmer, so just jumping from light purple to dark purple can look a bit wiggy to me (depends on how realistic you want the shading to be though. For cartoons, it's no biggie) PSG's website has an awesome tutorial on the subject which really influenced me greatly if you're interested. Check it out : [link]

Great piece. I've read all your SHREDD comics and I just love them. You should send it to Marvel or something.
I agree with vest, he doesn't seem to give off the metallic feel. Yet, I like the colouring. However, it could do with a bit more shadows. Overall, the pose is brilliant and the character's design certainly kick arse.

How do you manage to pull off such creative concepts such as these? The design and drawing is incredible.

I have a bunch of inspiration from movies and comics mostly. I'm not sure.... but I think SHREDD comes from some subliminal inspiration from the movies Aliens, Terminator, The Matrix, and some of the Spawn comics XD None of it was intended though, I just drew him and noticed the infulences later, don't you hate it when that happens? >_<

That's cool, considering I really like his designs. I can see how those mentioned references have influenced the concept, but the SHREDD's concept is very original. Too bad though, I can't say that I do hate it when that happens, because I was never creative enough to design my own characters... :/ At most, it would be Mega Man related drawings.
Everything influences everything, whether you like it or not... even in the most obscurest way.

woah, nice!!! great job with the feet there o-o
i think this is the first time i've seen a different pose for him completely finished, and full-body (meaning not the ones that were in all his fights....) but damn......this looks really great.
even looks like you got all the different joins and gears drawn technically correct (from what i can see) so he can actually move o.o OH SHIT, that'd be awesome to have a shredd action figure!!! sjfahudgfvbjhdvusadhg
nice colouring, and nice pose.....and nice feet
*covers up his nekkid mechanic "areas"* o-o

Hmm...it's a good composition. Nice character concept, he certainly is a sharp dresser. Aaahahaha, I make joke. (shoots self)
The coloring work is good as well. What you could do is even push the contrast between highlight and shadow even more, while reducing the gradiation between those two levels, to really push for a more metallic look. He doesn't look like plastic, which is good, but he isn't quite looking like metal, either.
The pose and gesture are spot on. I can imagine him balancing on the tips of blades while he stands, though I would think they would be digging into the ground a bit. Those legs certainly look precarious, and I get a feeling of a lot of weight being pushed down from his arms and torso, so I think it would look totally awesome if those legs/blades were slicing into the ground plane itself as to integrate him within the canvas itself.
Great technical work on the arms. They are probably the highlight of this drawing. They have good structure to them, and maintain a convincing alignment in space in accordance to the gesture. I get a feeling from having them outstretched, loose, that allows me to perceive him as balancing in place on those blades for feet. They also make him look more dynamic, and ready for action.
So overall, this is one kickin' piece. Superb coloring, top notch pose/gesture, and an overall intriguing character concept really make this one stand out as something truly unique. Therefore, I will graciously add it to my faves, so my watchers can also see a genuine example of a novel character design.
