A.K.A. "Show, don't tell."There's been another lull in the trash drawings again, hasn't there? Yes, opportunities to sketch for the past week have been few and far, but I've also been struggling with getting some of my ideas to paper. I'm trying to nudge myself away from my comfort zone of static poses, and while my last trash drawing was a good start, I haven't had much luck getting anything down on paper... well, nothing worth sharing, anyway. This one is... well, I don't know if this one is really worth sharing either, but it's been awhile since my last upload and it's a step in the right direction, so why not?
During Sharon's struggle to survive in the wilderness, she eventually gets ahold of a bow. It was old and homemade, but it changed everything for her - before, her go-to method of getting food was to often scavenge for anything edible, be it mushrooms, berries, or even insects. To say the least, she often went entire days without food. While she was hardly an expert marksman with that thing at first, she eventually got the hang of it and it was only a matter of time before she was able to bag her own meat. Sure, she still scavenged... there were still times where she had to eat insects and there were even still days where she went without eating at all, but learning to hunt allowed her to really start taking her life back. It got easier for her after that.
Of course, it's not enough for me to say she hunts with a bow. I can say a lot of things about Sharon, but very little of it matters if you don't show it off and draw it. Thus, I figured I'd try my hand at young adult Sharon taking aim - it's really rough, I know. The bow's off, the arms are weird-looking, and I'm pretty sure she's not holding that thing correctly. I'd normally look up references online for this sort of thing, but it's important to remember that I do these sketches at work when that's not really an available option for me. Thus, I had to attempt to draw something from memory to the best of my abilities. It's... well, you at least know she's aiming with a bow, so surely that counts for something, right? If I ever digitally ink this, I'd make it a priority to fix up the arms and bow as best as I could.
When sketching this, I looked back on the other "Outcast" concepts I drew of Sharon and I couldn't help but feel like they were a little bland and needed something a little extra to make the design more interesting. One thing I've thought about that I've added here is fur-based accessories; crude fur bracers for her arms and a fur lining for her tunic. If this was a full-body image, I'd probably also give her furry footwear of some sort. Gotta keep warm during the colder months, after all. Being concepts, nothing is finalized and this may or may not be a one-off thing. There's still a lot to think about, but let me know what you think about it! Should I add fur to her outfit?

Part of my "Trash Drawing" series, in which I use whatever supplies I can get ahold of at work (typically pens and scrap cardboard) and draw something down, often within a limited time-frame. Due to the rushed nature of these drawings, coupled with the fact that these are often drawn on literal pieces of garbage, I have taken to dubbing these things as "Trash Drawings."

The fact you were able to do this in the middle of work, on a piece of a cardboard, with an ink pen and without reference is awesome.
I definitely think the fur works wonders on Sharon's character design. I would keep it. The rough edges of the fur bring the drawing more life, giving the contrast to the smoothness of everything else.
