Description
On the twentieth day of July 69,For the first time in history,
The moon landed on a man.
The first time such move had been attempted by a celestial body,
A great feat of precision,
Didn't crush the man at all.
You see, we see things from our eyes,
And everyone knows our eyes see upside down.
Or is that the right way up?
I could tell you about walking through deserts,
The beauty of running water, of rain,
You'd be thinking of TV shows.
When was the last time you were challenged,
Walked away from a conversation stunned.
Who are you listening to, me or yourself?
If beauty is in the eye of the beholder,
Is meaning in the eye of the reader?
More importantly, are you reading this upside down?
Every word you read is yours,
Make your own sentences,
Take your own morals.
And even though I wouldn't dream of telling you what to do,
Look within other people,
You'll see yourself.
Find out what you are,
Where you are headed.
Find your own moon and land on it.

This is very compelling... You should submit your work to some of the many poetry groups on this site.

i love what you say about;
"If beauty is in the eye of the beholder,
Is meaning in the eye of the reader?
More importantly, are you reading this upside down?"
that speaks so loud it's amazing

I know I haven't read even a tenth of a tenth of all the poetry on deviant art but out of all I've read, this:
On the twentieth day of July 69,
For the first time in history,
The moon landed on a man.
...is the best opening.
Now I'm wondering... is it easier to turn to pc monitor upside down or do a headstand on the desk...

I'm put off by how direct this is, many times overt and telling. Stanzas 1, 2, and 4 are the exceptions--and I really, really love them, but the way the rest of the poem tries take the underlying moral of these stanzas and just rub it everywhere. I don't know, I think we get it. I am intruiged, however; I'll be checking your gallery.

something in this strikes me. i can't explain it, but i am drawn to it. i may be manifesting my own meaning from the words, but if that's what i desire, then why not? i simply say: thank you.

Hmm. A certain person said that they had written this and read it at 'Rock the Block.' Interesting fact.

You mean someone read this exact poem out? Are you sure you are not mistaken?
What is 'Rock the Block' and who was it?

Yes, they read that poem, word for word, which quickly perked my interest once I found out. I checked for myself, since they had (and still do have) my trust. I must say, though, that it is a very moving poem, which is why I can tell it's word for word.
'Rock the Block' is something to raise pep at my college, and the person was another student.

It feels as if I'm missing something from this poem; I keep reading it over, but still I don't think I'm grasping it's meaning. I do like the feeling it evoked, and I know a few of those lines will stay with me for a while; I'll go crazy trying to piece them to the original work. Thank you for inspiring me with your words.

Excellent, totally amazing, y'know, I wasn't even going to read it, I'm not a reading kind of person... but just the first sentence caught my attention, and couldn't stop, is so weird, what made me think, what I understood, I can't describe it, is just the way to say things what is so... so... umm... sorry can't find the word... is not in my dictionary... not even in my spanish dictionary... just in my head... EXCELLENT!!!

that's actually a very interesting piece. i won't say that the last paragraph doesn't sound a tad cliched (follow your heart!) but definitely the ideas about perspective (reading upside down... or is it rightside up?) and the terrible attitude many people take (I could tell you about walking through deserts / The beauty of running water, of rain, / You'd be thinking of TV shows) was very thought provoking and definitely worthy of the DD. congratulations.

You know, no matter how many time i stood on my head to read this poem, i kept getting the letters and words mixed up and wound up with this wild and crazy conglomeration of half understood sentences from my first time reading this and the interferences of reading upside down right side up when head over heels. Whether its the blood rushing to my head or electrical synapses sending endorphins to the brain to release my understanding of happiness, I figure there is very insightful and thought provoking truth to this poem that could, if the luck were up and the time just right, cause someone to become enlightened and for a split second see into the wonderful weave of life and step outside their body. We writers have a special task in this century to start out the next millenia off with some means of guidance. We are the next forebearers. And it is only we authors that can cut through the static of technologically dominated life to remind people of who they are, what they came from, what is still left to come to. Excellent poem.

by the way congrats on daily DD, this is a very unique way of twisting our minds and thoughts, u might have realized that many of us view things as they aren't, but some of us do manage to look beyond what our eyes can and can't see, i think in a way that's what ur saying or maybe i'm wrong, who knows, or maybe what u do mean is that what we think isn't always what it is, now that's simply put, hope u get more daily DD's, ur a great mind twister.
