Top 50 Challenge GalleryAfter doing Samurott last week, I decided I liked the watercolour brush better for backgrounds, and that I’d stick to the standard circle brush for the shades. But then I tried to give this Leavanny a background, and… failed. Failed to like it, actually, because it could have worked out, but I felt that the colours were taking away the attention from the composition. So in the end, I went with solid white. At least I’m figuring out handmade painterly effects more, I guess!

The brush-strokes add a nice style to it. I am the same way with backgrounds and they are not my strong suit, so no complaints with the white space, there! It works and it's also consistent with the rest of the pokémon you've done thus far for the top 50 challenge !

I would like to do simple backgrounds for these, though. The style is supposed to change over time, since I'm using this project to explore new techniques and track my progress. I already see a remarkable difference with my old work!
