Description
WARNING LARGE FILE!This tutorial skims the surface of four different methods of cutting out a subject to be placed on a background for a photomanipulation. It weighs the pros and cons of each method and briefly explains how to do the method. If you have any questions feel free to ask me and I hope this is helpful to someone. I will be making more tutorials soon
The horse used is stock from Colourize-Stock

Well, Since I use sai, I actual just use the normal lasso tool mixed with the eraser.

ooooh, the memories... I always used to use the eraser. And yes! Missing pixels was so cruel.

Ugh I know! I remember when I first was starting and I'd be so proud of a manip and then someone would point out missed background or rough cutting or something of the sort.... sooo frustrating xD I felt kind of silly making a tutorial of something as simple as cutting, but I have to remind myself that people who are just starting have no idea what the heck they are doing so hopefully this will help someone in the world of graphics

I use the pen tool most often for cutting my subject and I use layer mask to do grounding (to erase hooves or such)

As someone who uses the erase layer mask method, I wouldn't really say a con is missing some background pixels; you can tap the \| key (normally above the enter key) and it will highlight the erased area in red. This allows you to see if you've missed anything easier. (it's my life saver!)

Haha I wasn't trying to put down that method in anyway. I mostly out that con mindful of any artists who were like me and had no idea what the heck they were doing anddd had very little patience or really desire for an eye to detail. I know it's very possible to erase and later mask with no bg left on the picture but I just wanted to say that it's more likely to miss background pixels with eraser or later mask than with pen or polygonal. None of the things I said were really pros or cons but I wanted to make a nice organized T chart xD and it's 1 AM and I have a splitting headache so this tutorial is completely unedited at the moment and apparently when Summer is brain dead she gets 5000000x less eloquent

Just thought I'd throw that in there though anyway, even to those who use it not everyone knows it. T-charts are the best
hahaa! GO SLEEP LADY.
