Really? I had no idea. They never really expanded upon that when the movie came out. I should check out the story though. Sounds like it'll better than the film itself, which I'm confident that it is.

Nope. It got white-washed as a movie. But the story was based on the fact that Jewish women were often killed on the way to their weddings, and according to custom, you're supposed to be buried in the clothes you died in. So there were a lot of young women buried in their bridal gowns.

Just got through reading the original story. Surprisingly, I was right. It was much more interesting than the film itself. I'm not shocked that those were the only two elements they could transfer. But they could have really done something with the ending and put that into the film, instead of having her turn into BULLSHIT butterflies. That's Hollywood for ya.
