The day had come for Melinda and Hachi to head to Las Vegas to compete in their first virtual dragon fighting competition. The team had been fitted with specially fitting tack and given the rules when they visited a few months ago, but now they were here for the first taste of virtual fighting and spirits were high for them both. Hachi had entered Dragon Hunting contests previously, and he had shown bravery and endurance in the hunt so Melinda was eager to compete with her favourite Nordanner in this unconventional test.

Arriving a day ahead of the comp, there was plenty of time to adjust to the time difference and fit in some last minute training. Being one of the first teams to arrive Hachi was able to take the roomiest stall, which gave him a huge ego-boost (not that he needed it!)

When the time came to enter the arena, Hachi was given a last minute check by the staff. Melinda was quite nervous when the staff mentioned in passing that there were glitches in the system, and it was difficult to tell which dragon and environment each team would have. Not letting this info dampen her enthusiasm, she rode Hachi out into the arena proudly. The door they entered from allowed them to see their opponent clearly as soon as they entered. From the rules she had memorized Melinda knew this was a Cave Dragon, a fire breathing creature full of strength. Hachi wasn't a particularly big horse, so Melinda steered him toward a few big rocks on the opposite side of the arena, knowing stealth and agility would be their best weapons in this fight.
