Description
Chapter 2 of Werewolf Tale 2.Not much to say on this one. It can be considered a breather chapter coming off of the last one and the finale of the original story.
Still, enjoy. More to come soon.

As promised, I read it.
It was pretty easy to read, though I feel like we don't need so many details on the games being played and the focus should be Alex's stress. I got the sense that he really didn't want to play, but certainly didn't want to go home and be alone. That's a great set of conflicting emotions and I think you should play to them.
I know that we've talked a bit about it before, but now that I see it in print, I see exactly what you're getting at with the Alex/Shane instinct conflict and I think that it needs to be emphasized in conversations with other characters. Nathan keeps trying to tell Alex to relax and I feel like he needs to stand up and say that it's not just about getting beaten up, but being instinctively dominated. That is something to be deathly afraid of - that his instincts want him to submit and let Shane boss him around.

Indeed. Wanting to behave the way you know you should, but being unable to because of something that was thrown in your lap. Makes the curse actually feel like one, instead of being described as such. I'm glad you noticed that as well.
I'll keep what you said in mind, and see if I can incorporate it more; I haven't put as much direct emphasis on it so far since Alex and Shane don't meet very often, and it didn't affect him so much until very recently.

I've always noticed that instinct in werewolf stories comes in three forms:
-a synonym for "evil" - "Bob became a werewolf, gave in to his lupine instincts and killed everyone."
-a sort of "other" that bosses the werewolf around - "Bob's instincts told him to mate. Bob barely resisted them."
-an evil "other" - "Bob's new werewolf instincts told him to kill the whiny damsel in distress. Bob heroically resisted. The audience booed."
I think I like this more balanced approach where the werewolf just does stuff and doesn't realize it without reflecting on it.
When I first read about Shane, I couldn't figure out what about him was especially antagonistic. I think that if he plays with Alex's instincts that it's a level of manipulation that most people are going to find villainous.

Yeah, that's true. Not much wiggle room between those three, which is pretty sad.
That said, I'm trying not to approach the idea like Shane is doing this because he purposefully wants to, but yet has no reason to. He's hinted at how he thinks of himself and Alex in the original story. In fact, that was what most of the last five chapters of the original was about: Alex trying to deconstruct how Shane thinks, before being given the reason why he was bitten. Hence where they are now. He despises Shane for doing this to him and 'making up a story' to justify it. There's no one to confirm his story, so he looks at him like he's to be avoided but watched carefully.
On the flip side, to Shane, Alex is the more threatening, and possibly self-destructive, werewolf, despite having such a tight group of friends and family. He gets angry easily, mostly with them around, but falls back in line with enough pushing, or a brief gesture of compassion.
That's how I see the two of them.

It is sad, but I don't think people can comprehend animals' minds working in other ways.
I really do need to go back and read the original, don't I?
Though reading through that, I feel like they really need to sit down over a cup of coffee and open a dialogue. I think that they both want the same things.

Doesn't seem like it, does it?
If you do, the version on DA is several revisions out of date. I've got the updated version on Protagonize; watch for the link in your inbox.
It's possible. Alex mentioned a straight-up talk before, but Shane was against it. Mostly on the grounds of him being the antagonizer/scapegoat party if he accepted, for several reasons.

Thanks. I should have another one up later today after some tweaking. Probably not too much of it.
