Description
So far, I'm finding the current season of ARTHUR falling really flat this year: the stories are kind of cliched, they haven't been written very well, Arthur's voice now sounds like a little girl (though D.W. sounds the closest she's sounded to the original in years). It's nice to see former writer Ken Scarborough has returned, so far his episodes kind of feel like throwbacks to the older classic episodes, but even they have been falling flat too.Just about the only interesting about this season so far was exploring an apparent inner obsession Nadine has with D.W., and how she has the fear lingering over her that one day D.W. with outgrow her; from an imaginary friend's perspective, I guess that would make sense, because if D.W. outgrew her, Nadine would have no reasons for "existing" anymore.

Or maybe Nadine should just realize just how evil and mean her creator is and be happy she's no longer present.

Maybe it's a case of Stockholm Syndrome? I mean, D.W. can be quite the coniving and manipulative little bitch. . . .

DW could always bring Nadine to Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.

You're not the only one who's suggested that.

I think there was an episode where Nadine talked to Kate and Kate said that when D.W. outgrows Nadine, she can be Kate's imaginary friend.

I avoid those talking Pal and Kate episodes like the plague, so I wasn't aware of that.
I just know the teaser for a more recent episode saw life as an imaginary friend from Nadine's perspective, and she says the one down side of being an imaginary friend is that one day your friend will outgrow you, and she seemed deeply troubled by the idea.

Yeah, I never liked them either.
Couldn't Nadine just go to Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends until another child comes along and adopts her?

I think somebody else made that suggestion, so there seems to be a common thread here.

Nadine is a character who, IMO, rarely shows up when the series starts and doesn't really show up if at all in the later episodes. Same deal with Sandy Cheeks from SpongeBob.
Nadine is my favorite character from Arthur. And I'd be more than happy to give her a new home--a home where she'll be appreciated!

I don't remember exactly, but I think there actually was an episode not too many years ago that suggested that D.W. was, indeed, starting to outgrow her.

Yeah, I saw it.
They're pretty much giving Nadine the middle finger.

I stopped watching Arthur a few years ago, but from what you said, I'm glad I did.

In all honesty, ARTHUR stopped being good about eleven years ago... since then, it's pretty clear they keep running out of story ideas, giving characters diseases they've never had before, adding new characters left and right, all that stuff. The switch to Flash animation has been a bet of a handicap as well.

I just realized I haven't watched Arthur since 2008. Stopped watching PBS Kids in 2008, so that's probably when. Just got back into Sesame though. So I have no opinion from 2008 to 2014.

I'm with you, I haven't really been able to watch SESAME STREET since 2008 either, mainly because my PBS affiliate changed their schedule at that time, and started playing it at a very inconvenient time... now they've got shortened half-hour versions of the show that airs in the afternoon and I've been able to watch again. I'm really disappointed with how their reliance on CGI and chromakey has reached ridiculous proportions.

The CGI and chromakey might have something to do with production costs, but then again, doesn't that cost more in most cases? But yeah, it is quite upsetting. The new person who is performing Ernie has done pretty good though, so I guess that's a highlight. The show has changed the most in the past 15 or so years, and it's about 50/50 with good and bad. But at least it's on the air.
