This was the second piece of a series completed for a group exhibition called SEXSELLS: Observations of an Eroticised Consumer Culture. Here's the Tumblr: sexsells2012.tumblr.com/

This work looks specifically at iPhones and the fetishistic way in which they're designed and advertised. The ultra-black, smooth, sleek, high contrast and highly reflective surface bears much resemblance to dominatrix-style latex and leather objects of fetish.

The work also challenges the relationship between ourselves and these devices. We believe we are the dominant party, using iPhones to do our work and make our lives easier, faster and more pleasurable. However, in a sense our addictions and techno-fetishes have made us the slaves. We're incessantly checking, updating, downloading, maintaining, connecting, providing information, financing... We are reliant and dependent, unable to physically part with the object for even a couple of hours. We are also slaves to the brand, feverishly anticipating and salivating over the release of the latest iPhone model. So who is working for who?

Touch & Technofetish: This series explores the increasingly erotic undertones in our relationships with modern technological devices - most effectively symbolised by Apple products such as iPhones - from their physical design and fetishistic advertising, to the stimulation-based way in which we’re intended to interact with them. These digital photomontage compositions are supplemented by two abstract watercolour paintings that deal more organically with physical stimulation and sensory pleasure, and the common forms used to express these sensations.
