This painting was exhibited (unfinished) as part of my series "Touch & Technofetish" for the group show SEXSELLS: Observations of an Eroticised Consumer Culture. Here's the Tumblr: sexsells2012.tumblr.com/
It accompanies "The Height of Pleasure", and also deals more organically with physical stimulation and sensory pleasure, and the common forms used to express these sensations.
It was interesting hearing people's interpretations of this one
As there was a feminine representative in the other painting, people assumed this would be the male equivalent. This led to some pretty imaginative conclusions, including one horrific cross-section scenario that I'll detail no further...Anyway, this began as male and still has a spermy vibe in some places, but it morphed into something very genderless and more about sensation, perception, and stimulation as part of a mechanised system . The circle motif took on symbolic representation of an egg, then a cell, then an eye.
Yada yada yada, it's just funky and colourful. Haha.

Yeah, it would take me awhile to get anything to Locke like that if ever. I can do one part well, but when I move to another, my hand seems to forget and it looks different and would show lines that I couldn't cover or blend well.

How did you get the spiral things in the background?

They are actually from a paint pen! Generally I've found it doesn't work for me because it's always a little too translucent and not a bold enough white. But that fit perfectly for those spirals which were only faintly present

Great effect none the less! Sometimes a good white gel pen will give a nice opaque white.

If i saw this on neurology exam i would say "astrocyte!".
But as i see it on dA then.. um, well.. a very artistic astrocyte (?) 
Ah, sorry, i'm a bit affected by my studies :> But as i've seen it, i first thought of nerve cells as they quite mystical things. And this painting has quite mystical touch also. Especially these exploding colours in the background.. That's how i would imagine an impulse (:
