Description
I wanted to paint a smiling face for once so I asked google which came up with this cute photo.Trying a very highly detailed approach with a grid and forcing myself to be a little bolder with the colours.
I'm pretty happy with the result, especially the towel and mouth.
Trick question : what colour are the eyes ? Zoom in and you'll find out you are wrong ^^
Feel free to hit the download button to be able to zoom in more and appreciate the detail.

I've got nothing negative to say about this. Love how realistic the baby looks. Keep it up.

Hi there, simbalm !
On the behalf of ProjectComment ....
I really love the expression of this baby's face. Those eyes and smile are well rendered and detailed. Your attention to skin folding and highlights makes this piece really nice.
The skin also looks pretty well textured, although I might smooth out some of the shadows.
I think you might want to define some of your edges more, particularly on the neck, towel, and shape of the face. Since the towel is covering him/her, those shadows would be defined and the edges would be a bit sharper. Also, I might use a more purple-ish reddish tint to the shadow on the forehead, as it might look a little bit more natural and blend with the skin more. A
Overall, great work! It's adorable and looks quite realistic!

Ok, thanks ! The shadows on the original photo (www.winfocus.org/_/rsrc/145734… ) are actually even softer than on my picture, but I think I get what you mean by the colour of the shadow needing some fixing.

I meant to say I would try to define some of the edges more, instead of the whole shadow, you know?

That looks amazing! With the lighting and the slight shadows, I thought it WAS a photo! You have some serious skills!

Wow! Crazy detailed work!! I love his eyes, there is so much life in them!!
Personally, I would have gone for a less colder palette of color. I feel that the blue-ish purple around his eyes removes his youth a little haha. Also, for his lips and cheeks, I would have gone for a red that leans towards a pink or even orange to brighten up his face even more. I'm ok with the wrinkles around his neck; it's normal it's a baby -__- However, because you put in so much work in the details, I would also add that those wrinkles don't look like it's part of his body. It feels drawn in. I think it's missing some shading to blend everything in.
Other than that, you did such a great job on this piece of art <3

Thanks for your insightful comment!
I like how the purple and blue make the picture feel more fresh than the original (www.winfocus.org/_/rsrc/145734… ) but I may have overdone it a little especially under the eyes ^^. I definitely need to overcome my laziness and spend more time on less important detail like the neck wrinkles to make my pictures more consistent quality-wise.
Happy art-making

The eyes are gorgeous -- but given I'm colorblind, i'm not even going to attempt to answer your question.
I'm okay with teh wrinkles at the base of the baby's neck -- those rugrats are chubby as heck at that age. No reason to body shame the poor fellow.

Thanks ^^
The eyes don't actually have a colour but many colours. They look grey-blue from afar but if you zoom in you find touches of red, green and yellow.

Hi! I'm from ! Allow me to give you my critique on this.
-I feel like there's too many wrinkles near the base of the neck. A few are fine, but not a lot.
-The tongue seems to be like the same color as the skin.
-The cheeks are a bit too big/droopy.
+Amazing detail.
+Astonishing use of bright colors.
+Accurate to human antonomy.
+Accurate shading and lighting.
Overall, great work!

Thanks for the input!
The nubmer of wrinkles is actually 100% accurate. Here's the original photo to compare : www.winfocus.org/_/rsrc/145734… . Though I admit I should have spent more time on them. I'm a bit lazy, it's one of my main weaknesses.
The tongue naturally has a color very close to the skin, I actually added a lot of purple to make it stand out.
I'm pretty confident about the shape of the cheeks because I drew them using a grid.
Can I ask you your opinion on the towel?

Oh. Whoops... The towel looks nice, but at the right side, it blends in with the background a bit because there's no 'outline' to it.

Ahhh it's sooooo cuuuuuuuuute XD The towel came out really wekk and the skin tones are nice, have enough of a slight overblown look to go with the white background Good reflection in the eyes too.

LoL sorry about my terrible typos XD They're worse when I'm sitting off to one side of the keyboard as I sometimes browse dA when I need a break from whatever I'm doing on my Cintiq which is on the right of my keyboard XD
